Clinical Associate in Applied Psychology (CAAP) Programme Director (8c – 0.8 wte) Honorary Cardiff University titles are available (dependent on experience).

On behalf of Health Education and Improvement Wales (HEIW) Cardiff and the Vale University Health Board in collaboration with Cardiff University are seeking to appoint a Programme Director to lead a pilot of a new Clinical Associate in Applied Psychology (CAAP) MSc training programme. We are also seeking two CAAP Senior Tutors. The appointees will work alongside the existing Doctorate in Clinical Psychology staff team. Agenda for Change terms and conditions apply to these posts. The post holders would also be awarded an honorary Cardiff University academic post commensurate with their CV and would be expected to secure status as an honorary Lecturer, Senior Lecturer, or in exceptional circumstances as a Reader.

The successful applicants will have a DClinPsy or equivalent and be registered with the HCPC as a Practitioner Psychologist. Accreditation with BABCP, AFT, or other recognised professional bodies would be advantageous. The successful candidate for the director role will have a solid background in managing NHS services or in contributing to the provision of clinical or applied psychology training.  Ideally they will also have a track record in producing scholarly or/and research outputs.

Whilst these are part-time posts (8c – 0.8 wte; 8b 0.6 wte) we would assist successful candidates wishing to work full-time to find additional clinical sessions in one of the NHS Health Boards within South, Mid, or West Wales. The posts are offered either as a secondment or on a temporary contractual basis for a 24 month period.  Continuation beyond that is dependent on the programme being re-commissioned.

The successful applicants will be joining an established and respected Clinical Psychology Doctorate team.  This role involves close collaboration and partnership working with University and NHS colleagues, including Clinical Psychologists, Service Users and Carers, and other healthcare professionals.

The CAAPs programme will be based close to the centre of Cardiff, and will seek to build close links with health boards in Mid, West, and South Wales.  Cardiff is a vibrant University and capitol city.  It has excellent rail, air, and road links to the rest of the UK and to the beautiful countryside and coastal areas of Wales.

If you would like to discuss these posts informally prior to applying, please contact the South Wales Clinical Psychology Programme Director, Professor Andrew Thompson (thompsona18@cardiff.ac.uk).

The closing date for this post is 19/06/2022. Applications should be made by clicking the apply button above.
