Your duties will include undertaking the day to day operation of the University’s Recreational programmes, carrying out gym inductions, setting up and putting down equipment and providing a high level of customer service to student, staff and external users.  The post will regularly be responsibility for the sports facilities and oversee student casual staff.

have previous work experience in a sports centre or similar environment
have a good standard of general education and sport related qualifications would be advantageous

Recreation Assistant (Lifeguard)

Are you customer focused and dedicated to providing an excellent service? Do you have excellent organisation skills with the ability to plan and prioritise work effectively?
The University has recently invested £1.2M to expand ‘The Edge’ sports facility and provides state of the art fitness and class equipment, offering a range of classes and aquatics activities and 25 metre 8 lane swimming pool.  
As a Recreation Assistant you will work as part of a small team ensuring that the environment is safe for use and that a high level of customer service is maintained at all times. Alongside your responsibility for lifeguarding, you will undertake a range of duties including cleaning tasks, setting up sport areas and moving equipment safely. There will also be a requirement for you to cover reception duties at some of our smaller sites, as required.    
You will have a current Royal Life Saving Society UK (RLSS) lifeguard qualification (or equivalent) and ideally have experience working as a lifeguard. You will have excellent communication skills and have a helpful attitude towards customers, with the ability to work independently and also as part of a team.  
This is a full time role working 35 hours each week. You will be required to work on a shift based system, which includes the requirement for you to work early mornings, evenings, weekends, University closure days and bank holidays. You will be primarily based at one of our designated sports facilities, however will be required to work at any of our sports facilities when required.  
An Enhanced Disclosure from the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) is required for this position.

Duty Supervisor

University of Cambridge Sport is looking to appoint a Duty Supervisor to join the team responsible for the efficient and effective management of day to day operations and services at University Sports facilities.
The role of the Duty Supervisor is to supervise, motivate and support Sports Service staff, ensuring that operational, health and safety and security protocols are implemented effectively. They will ensure that high standards of customer care are exhibited throughout the facilities to create a welcoming, professional and safe environment for users. The role holder will also work closely with the Estates staff to manage the Health and Safety, maintenance and environmental management procedures and processes throughout the facilities. Duty Supervisors are also allocated specific teams or operational functions to oversee.
Hours of work are based on a shift pattern that includes early mornings, late evenings, weekend and bank holiday shifts. The Duty Supervisor will deal with issues that may arise at all University of Cambridge Sports Service sites, (Sport Centre, Fenner’s and Wilberforce Road Sports Grounds) during evenings and weekends.
Applicants should have experience of managing internal and external sports facilities. They should also have a range of NGB coaching certificates, industry recognised management certificates or fitness qualifications. Applicants should also possess a First Aid at Work qualification, Automated Emergency Defibrillator qualification and a Health and Safety Qualification, or the ability to achieve these.
Duty Supervisors are expected to have excellent communication skills and the ability to proactively encourage and guide staff, deal with a range of customers, and handle difficult situations effectively with tact and diplomacy.

Main duties & responsibilities

Main duties of the TASS (Talented Athlete Scholarship Scheme) / HTAP (Hertfordshire Talented Athelte Programme) lead role will include: Being the main liaison between TASS / HTAP and University of Hertfordshire, TASS / HTAP portal administration, budgets and invoicing, organising TASS / HTAP events, arranging MDT meetings, athlete communication and reviews.
Skills and experience
Substantial proven experience in the provision of S&C services including coaching athletes to improve performance, as well as experience performing needs analyses, planning and implementing diagnostics and monitoring systems and strategic planning of training based on the results is essential for this role. Eperience with social media for marketing purposes is also required.
Excellent IT skills with respect to Microsoft Office, especially Excel, is required as well good organisation and communication skills. You will have excellent coaching skills with the ability to understand the needs of athletes in a high performance environment. You will have the ability to adapt to the environment augment performance, and have excellent presentation and communication skills.
Qualifications required
An undergraduate degree in S&C, sports science, or related field and a UKSCA accreditation are essential for this role.

Responsibilities
You will supervise CitySport (the University sports facility) and all operational staff when scheduled as Duty Manager in charge. You will assist the Leisure Supervisor (Fitness) for the delivery of coaching and exercise instruction, facilities operation, service planning, and customer relations. This role will require a good working knowledge of current health and fitness practices and could be responsible for overseeing allocated projects agreed by the fitness supervisor.
You will be responsible for opening and closing the facility, including mornings /evenings, weekends and bank holidays; supervising staff, overseeing building operations and managing Front of House responsibilities as required.
Person Specification
You will have a recognized industry qualification in Fitness Instruction to a minimum of NVQ Level 2 and have a current First Aid at work certificate.
Experience of managing teams, supervising rotas and a good knowledge of current health and safety and covid regulation in the fitness industry is required; along with experience of overseeing building operations i.e. opening and closing the facility.

Background
The Duty Manager role is heavily operational and will support the Leisure Supervisor – Operations, with health and safety duties and building management. This role also requires leadership skills to manage the team when on shift. Communication is paramount as the Duty Manager will report on building faults and 1st aid to other departments within the University.
The postholder will be required to open & close the building, work on a Monday – Sunday rota, which will also include bank holidays.
