
Are you an experienced data protection professional looking for an exciting new role supporting academic, research and business in a unique university?
Birkbeck is looking for an enthusiastic and well organised Data Protection Officer, to manage and oversee data protection, freedom of information and information management activities across our academic and business operations.
In this role you will work with colleagues throughout the College to support compliance with the General Data Protection Regulations, the Data Protection Act and the Freedom of Information Act.
Key aspects of the role include maintaining an awareness and compliance programme and working proactively with our academic Schools and professional services to identify and address areas of risk and support compliance with the legislation. You will also oversee and manage a framework for responding to data protection and freedom of information requests. You will also be involved in addressing data protection concerns in third party contracts.
To succeed you will need an in-depth understanding of current UK data protection requirements, and the systems and processes involved in gathering, storing, transferring and collecting data. You will hold a data protection practitioner certificate and be an excellent and engaging communicator with strong organisational skills.

Remuneration:
Grade 8 of the College’s London Pay Scale which is £45,996 rising to £54,142 per annum.
The salary quoted is on the College’s London Pay Scale which includes a consolidated Weighting/Allowance which applies only to staff whose normal contractual place of work is in the London area.
