About ARU:

ARU is a global university transforming lives through innovative, inclusive and entrepreneurial education and research. We are ranked in the world’s top 350 HEIs in the 2021 Times Higher Education World University Rankings and in the top ten mainstream universities in the country for the proportion of UK undergraduates in employment 15 months after graduating. We have campuses in Cambridge, Chelmsford, London and Peterborough with around 2,500 staff and 35,000 students from 180 countries. With a focussed civic mission, we are committed to working with others through education, research and knowledge exchange to enhance the economic, cultural and social wellbeing of the communities in which we work and live.

About the Role:

Since its formation in 2016, the Policing Institute for the Eastern Region (PIER) has been committed to delivering innovative, high-quality collaborative research, professional development and knowledge exchange for the improvement of policing practice. PIER has a core staff of ten, including a Director, Institute Chair, Institute Manager and researchers. We also host a number of visiting academic and practitioner fellows and post-graduate research students. Since its inception, PIER has secured research contracts from police services, industry, government and charitable foundations with the number of projects doubling that PIER has taken on over the last year.

This year, PIER will launch their new strategic plan with a focus on public protection research under three key areas: Sexual Offending, 21st Century Policing and Extremism and Counter Terrorism, and we are seeking to appoint a new Deputy Director of PIER to work with the Director towards the delivery of our strategic objectives and help navigate the Institute into its next exciting phase of growth. With a PhD or Professional Doctorate in an appropriate subject area, you will have previous line management experience and research leadership skills. You will be able to demonstrate a track record in research and income generation and ideally knowledge of at least two specialised policing areas. This is an exciting role working with an exceptional team who are committed and passionate about research that has real world impact and helps protect the most vulnerable in society.
