Faculty Strategic Research Manager


About the Role

The Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences at Queen Mary University of London is seeking to recruit a Faculty Strategic Research Manager who will play an instrumental role in the development and delivery of the Faculty’s research and innovation strategy by leading the Faculty Research, Innovation and Partnerships team.

The post-holder will oversee the Faculty’s research support provision and will manage a team of Senior Research Managers. The role holder will work closely with academic staff to understand internal University and faculty priorities and develop and lead collaborative projects externally with academic institutions, the cultural sector, public policy organisations, professional service firms and corporate partners in high priority areas.

The Faculty Strategic Research Manager will work closely with the Faculty Dean for Research, Heads of School, School Directors of Research and related Professional Services colleagues to support our academic staff in growing research income across the Faculty. This will include developing mechanisms to support our researchers and our research enabling activities in partnership with others; leading on aspects of supporting readiness for the next REF and the development of impact and future knowledge exchange exercises (such as the Knowledge Exchange Framework (KEF); and co-ordinating the Faculty response to large calls.

About You

The role is based within the senior leadership team in the Faculty and is the key strategic link to the Research & Innovation Directorate. Effective communication and relationship management across multiple and varied stakeholders internally and externally is a key requirement as is the ability to lead and manage a team in a fast-moving environment.

You will have significant experience of research management in an academic environment and line management experience.

About the Faculty

The Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences has eight Schools across which 7,000 students are hosted and to which approximately 600 academic staff belong. The Faculty is committed to excellence in research and innovation, and to delivering an exceptional education and student experience across all of our disciplines.

The post is based at the Mile End Campus in London. It is full time, permanent appointment with an immediate start date. The starting salary will be Grade 7, in the range of £56,678 – £63,351 per annum, inclusive of London Allowance.
