Academic Advisor

Position Summary

This position reports to the Assistant Director of Undergraduate Advising and is accountable
for providing academic advising services for undergraduate students. Academic advising provides students with an opportunity to build a
relationship with their advisor for the purpose of planning their educational career; learning how to access campus resources and services
available to them; and empowering them to “claim their education”. Working within the philosophy of advising as teaching, professional
advisors will:



  • Support a caseload of students in their pursuit of academic excellence, by developing an educational plan
    consistent with their life goals and objectives.
  • Manage high work volume with attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Advise
    students on course selection and degree completion, in compliance with Bryant’s academic standards and monitoring progress toward
    degree.
  • -Provide students with strategies for utilizing the available resources and services on campus.
  • Help students
    navigate university policies and procedures to ensure a broad understanding of academic expectations.
  • Assist students with academic
    planning for co-curricular opportunities such as internships and study abroad programs.
  • Create and deliver holistic and
    transformative programs in individual and group settings.

This is a 12 month full-time position with excellent

Principal Accountabilities

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the
following:


  • Academic Advising: facilitate understanding and purpose of higher education for advisees; assist
    students with academic goal setting; teach students how to monitor their progress; help students develop decision making skills; make
    student referrals to campus resources as necessary; advise on course selection and long-term academic planning; work with students who have
    academic difficulties and helping them to access appropriate resources on campus; maintain close working relationships with faculty and with
    colleagues within the Amica Center for Career Education, Counseling Services, the Academic Center for Excellence, and the Office of
    Accessibility Services, and Student Affairs to discuss issues related to the academic success of students.
  • Study Abroad
    Advising:
    advise students who are interested in the opportunity to study abroad; assist students with course planning and
    curriculum integration for a semester or more abroad; and advise on transferability of credits for courses taken within selected customized
    study abroad programs.
  • Strategic Planning and Faculty Engagement: experience with various advising models to meet
    the needs of diverse student populations. The ability to interface and coordinate with faculty around student development and student
    needs.
  • Registration and Records: assist in scheduling, preparing and presenting programs for registration and
    orientation for all incoming students as well as pre-registration for all continuing students; maintaining appropriate student records
    within the University’s database; assist in the review of final grades, and analyzing the academic parameters achieved to determine honors,
    probation, or dismissal status; and certifying graduates.
  • Transfer Credits: assist in the approval of applications
    for transfer credit, including evaluating transcripts of transfer students for acceptability of courses and credits from other
    institutions.


Qualifications

This position is best filled by an individual with or in pursuit of a
Master’s degree in a related field, and demonstrated knowledge of academic advising. Ability to utilize computerized registration and degree
audit applications is required; SCT Banner, EAB Navigate360, and Degree Works experience is desirable. Excellent interpersonal and
communications skills are required to effectively advise students and interact with faculty and staff. Experience interpreting and
administering academic policies is preferred. International, cultural and language experiences/skills although not required are encouraged.
