Fayetteville Technical Community College is recruiting for a new member to join our Student Services Success Team and now accepting applications for a full-time Academic Advisor II!

The Academic Advisor II is a member of the Academic Advising Team, which is focused on student success, retention, and persistence. The Academic Advisor II is responsible for providing specialized guidance and support to students within a specific academic discipline or program. The primary focus of this role is to provide advanced academic guidance, mentor Academic Advisor I, and participate in strategic initiatives to enhance student success.

Duties

Essential Duties-Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:


  • Provide expert guidance on course selection, academic planning, and degree requirements to align with students’ educational goals.
  • Develop and implement advising programs, workshops, and training sessions to support student success and retention.
  • Mentor fellow Academic Advisor I in developing their advising skills and strategies.
  • Analyze student data and trends to inform the development of new advising initiatives and interventions.
  • Collaborate with faculty, administrators, and support staff to enhance advising services and promote student success.
  • Participate in departmental and institutional committees focused on student success and retention initiatives.
  • Monitor student progress, identify potential challenges, and intervene with support resources and strategies.
  • Maintain current knowledge of academic program requirements, institutional policies, and best practices in academic advising.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of academic program requirements, including prerequisite and corequisite courses, competitive admissions processes, and College policies and procedures to effectively guide students throughout their academic journey.
  • Perform other duties as may be assigned by supervisor.

Key Performance Indicators-

  • Achieve a high degree completion rate for advised students by developing tailored academic plans, monitoring progress, and providing timely interventions.
  • Maintain a strong student retention rate for advisees by fostering supportive relationships, guiding them through challenges, and promoting engagement in academic and co-curricular activities.
  • Conduct curriculum-specific workshops and events to enhance students’ understanding of their academic programs and career pathways.
  • Consistently attain a high percentage of students reporting increased clarity in academic and career goals by offering personalized guidance, resources, and experiential learning opportunities.
  • Ensure a high percentage of students attend mandatory advising sessions through proactive communication, scheduling, and promotion of the benefits of advising services.
  • Encourage and facilitate early course registration among advisees.

Minimum Qualifications


Master’s degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in education, behavioral sciences, leadership or a closely related field.

Two years of increasingly responsible academic, career, and personal coaching experience or other relevant academic advising functions.


Preferred Requirements

Knowledge of the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and the financial aid process.


Experience developing and maintaining a learner-centered and culturally responsive approach to advising and case management for new and continuing students.

Experience with advising students holistically throughout the entire college experience.


Experience supporting students’ progression toward their educational and career goals through the use of various evidence-based strategies.

College Pay Scale: Minimum starting salary $58,450 annually
