Position Summary
The Adult
Education Coordinator/Basic Literacy coordinates the operations of assigned SFCC Adult Education (AE) programming. Develops and implements
strategies to enhance program effectiveness, ensuring compliance with educational standards and regulations. Coordinates activities and
programming for the Literacy Volunteers of Santa Fe(LVSF)/AE Basic Literacy tutoring program. This position has limited supervision of
others as it pertains to specific program components.



This is a Fixed-Term (TERM) position therefore continuous employment is
contingent upon further position funding and/or need.
Duties & Responsibilities

  • Collaborates with staff in grant
    writing activities, departmental planning, and reporting, needs assessments, surveys, and state evaluations.
  • Maintains database
    accuracy and conducts data analysis for essential program content in conjunction with department managers and the data
    analyst.
  • Addresses issues and mandates from state agencies and coordinates with school districts, city, and state
    officials.
  • Coordinates the registration process to enroll students into literacy program.
  • Supervises and evaluates volunteer
    tutors to provide basic literacy and math tutoring to adults performing at or below the sixth grade level.
  • Serves on hiring panels,
    task forces, specific teams, and committees
  • Conducts ongoing public awareness and community outreach campaigns. Represents the
    literacy program at civic groups, on radio/TV programs, and at other public events. Produces and distributes departmental publicity
    materials Updates website and social media platforms.
  • Develops new funding sources and assists the department in preparing,
    recommending, and managing overall non-profit program budget and individual grant budgets. Writes quarterly, mid-year, and annual reports
    for non-profit grant funders.
  • Facilitates and plans for faculty, volunteer tutor, and staff professional
    development.
  • Negotiates site agreements with off-site locations.
  • Offers guidance and assistance to instructors in supporting
    students with special needs. Provides expertise on best practices in adult literacy education, including knowledge of strategies for
    teaching students with learning differences or disabilities.
  • Plans and evaluates the structure and design of program classes or
    tutoring sessions. Coordinates the development of curriculum and syllabi. Defines and measures learning outcomes and organizes program
    components, including intake, orientation, instruction, and assessment. Tracks student learning progression and accomplishment of goals for
    transitioning to other programs of study or jobs.
  • Recruits, initiates, and maintains new and existing community partnerships,
    reaching out to them to recruit students in need of basic literacy tutoring services. Collaborates with SFCC Adult and Career Education
    (ACE) coordinator to recruit and offer complimentary and transitional services to students in need.
  • Reviews and orders appropriate
    classroom materials, software, and instructor resource materials.
  • Reviews initial screenings on students for learning disabilities.
    Refers students for further diagnostic testing and placement. Advises students and instructors on individualized educational plans (IEPs)
    and accommodations.
  • Supervises and evaluates volunteer tutors to provide basic literacy and math tutoring to adults performing at or
    below the sixth grade level.
  • Serves on hiring panels, task forces, specific teams, and committees.

Knowledge, Skills
and Abilities


  • Knowledge of adult literacy education, including curriculum design, assessment, and instructional strategies
    for diverse learners.
  • Knowledge of grant writing and nonprofit program management, including budgeting, reporting, and compliance
    requirements.
  • Knowledge of community outreach and partnership development with agencies, schools, and
    organizations.
  • Knowledge of data management and analysis for program planning, evaluation, and reporting.
  • Knowledge of
    applicable state and federal regulations related to adult education and accommodations.
  • Strong written and verbal communication
    skills for grants, reports, and public presentations.
  • Skill in data analysis and reporting to support program and organizational
    decision-making.
  • Skill in program and project coordination, including registration, instruction, and professional development
    activities.
  • Skill in collaboration and relationship-building with staff, partners, volunteers, and community
    stakeholders.
  • Proficiency in the use of databases, office software, and social media platforms
  • Ability to plan, implement,
    and evaluate literacy programs and student learning outcomes.
  • Ability to recruit, train, and supervise volunteers and instructional
    support staff
  • Ability to work effectively with adults with limited literacy or special learning needs.
  • Ability to manage
    multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and maintain accurate program documentation and site agreements.

Minimum
Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Education, Adult Literacy, or a related field.
  • Two (2) years of adult education
    related experience.
  • Equivalent related experience may be substituted for education on a year for year
    basis.

Preferred Qualifications


  • Experience working with diverse at-risk students, especially those with
    learning differences or disabilities.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish).

Physical Demands

  • The work is
    typically performed while sitting at a desk or table or while intermittently standing or walking. The employee occasionally lifts light
    objects.
  • The work is typically performed in an office.

Schedule Designation:


  • This position may have
    the opportunity to enjoy a hybrid work schedule as determined by the Director of Adult Education.
  • This is a Fixed-Term (TERM)
    position therefore continuous employment is contingent upon further position funding and/or need.
  • Typically 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.,
    Monday through Friday. May be required to work after hours and/or weekends.
