Summary:
The primary function of this position is to be Assistant
Athletic Trainer working under the supervision of Head Athletic Trainer providing support for intercollegiate athletic teams at the
University of Illinois Springfield.


Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the prevention, management, and
    care of injuries encountered in competitive athletics; observe, diagnose injuries and assign appropriate rehabilitation exercises to the
    student-athlete; consult Head Athletic Trainer on long-term treatments or refer to physician as necessary.
  • Assist in coordination
    of medical care for all home athletics events and the daily operations of the UIS Sports Medicine facilities. Prepare practice and
    competition sites for emergency treatment and safety measures. Monitor environmental conditions to insure safety of student-athletes during
    practice and competition.
  • Assist with the organization and administration of a comprehensive, Division II Sports Medicine Program
    under the direction of the Head Athletic Trainer, including medical clearance and evaluation of incoming and returning student-athletes,
    injury prevention programs, injury evaluations, injury management, injury treatment and rehabilitation, and educational programs for
    University of Illinois Springfield student-athletes.
  • Create, analyze, and maintain according to HIPAA/FERPA guidelines, complete
    and accurate, confidential, medical-related records, reports, and related paperwork on student-athlete injuries, treatments, and
    rehabilitation for insurance, legal, or/or professional purposes.
  • Work directly with all assigned sport and strength and
    conditioning coaches regarding student-athlete welfare such as daily injury reports, musculoskeletal examinations, and safety and equipment
    recommendations.
  • Preceptor for students in the Masters of Athletic Training Program. This includes supervising, mentoring and
    instructing athletic training student through clinical experiences.
  • Hold regular office hours in the Sports Medicine area within
    the Recreational and Athletic Center at UIS and attend all athletic Department Staff meetings as scheduled during the year.
  • Accountable for compliance with NCAA Division II and Great Lakes Valley Conference rules and regulations, University of Illinois
    policies and procedures, and Federal and State of Illinois laws.
  • Additional duties as assigned by the Director of Athletics or Head
    Athletic Trainer.
  • Minimum Qualifications:
    Master’s Degree in Health Sciences, Athletic Training,
    Kinesiology, Exercise Science or related field required. CPR/AED certification and NATA-BOC certification required; must be eligible for
    State of Illinois Athletic Trainer license. Possess technical and practical expertise in appropriate application and supervision of a wide
    range of rehabilitative exercises/therapy and diagnostic equipment. Evening and weekend work required as necessary with some travel
    expected.



    Preferred Qualifications:
    Athletic training experience at the collegiate level
    preferred.

    Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
    Excellent organization, interpersonal, written and oral communication
    skills needed.


    Ability to communicate effectively and successfully with head and assistant coaches, strength and conditioning
    coaches, team physicians, and administrators.

    Demonstrated ability to work successfully with a diverse student population.
