Job Summary

Reporting to the Associate Dean, the Assistant Dean, Admission
will be a key member of the admission team. The Assistant Dean will represent the institution at high schools, community colleges, and
community-based organizations nationwide, delivering information sessions, participating in college fairs, leading workshops, and supporting
other recruitment initiatives. The Assistant Dean will work closely with student workers, including leading the tour guide program and
assisting with the administration of the summer internship program. The Assistant Dean will serve on the Campus Visit Student Worker Teams.
They will also read and evaluate applications and actively participate in the committee process to select candidates. Additional
responsibilities may be assigned based on the needs of the office and the individual’s skills.


Job Duties

  • 25%
    Campus Visit Program Management – Oversee the campus tour guide program, including the hiring, training, scheduling, and
    supervision of 50 student tour guides. Develop semester and monthly training sessions, manage weekly work schedules, and assign supplemental
    projects during low-traffic periods. Manage a $40,000 budget for tour guide pay, approve timesheets, and track hours to ensure compliance
    with student employment limits. – (Essential)
  • 20% – Territory Management and Recruitment Travel – Manage assigned
    geographic territories, including extensive out-of-state travel. Build relationships with counselors and schools, attend recruitment events,
    and host off-campus programs. Use CRM tools to assess territory strategy, track engagement, and evaluate event effectiveness. –

  • 15% – Campus Visit & Student Worker Teams – Serve as a senior member of the Campus Visit, and Student
    Worker Teams, contributing to strategic planning and oversight. – (Essential)
  • 10% – Application Review – Evaluate
    first year and transfer applications. Provide leadership in admission committees, support consistent application review standards, and train
    new readers by offering feedback and guidance. – (Essential)
  • 10% – Slate CRM and Campus Visit Operations – Manage
    all campus visit events in Slate, including scheduling over 500 events annually for 10,000+ visitors. Build and activate registration
    systems, track attendance, and analyze yield data. Coordinate student availability based on class schedules to optimize visit timing. –

  • 10% – Admission Summer Internship Program Support – Assist in coordinating the hiring, training, and
    supervision of 6 summer interns. Manage the summer visit calendar and coordinate with campus partners such as facilities and dining. Assist
    in administering a $60,000 program budget. – (Essential)
  • 5% – Special Visit & Group Visit Coordination – Manage
    special visit requests, including confidential VIP tours, and coordinate with departments to enhance the visit experience. Coordinates with
    the group visit lead to organize and staff visits from community-based organizations, schools, and internal partners. –

  • 5% – Admission Officer of the Day (AOD) – Serve in the Admission Officer of the Day rotation to deliver
    information sessions, respond to inquiries from prospective students and families via phone, email, and in person. –

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in liberal arts, communication, marketing or other
    fields that relate to position responsibilities or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Three years of experience in
    undergraduate higher education and an understanding of a residential liberal arts experience.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office
    applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), Google drives/folders/forms, Adobe Acrobat, Web Editing, and social media applications or any
    combination of productivity programs applicable to position responsibilities.
  • Demonstrated ability to be detail-oriented and
    thorough; skilled at anticipating and preventing potential problems and handling a wide variety of tasks with efficiency and
    accuracy.
  • Strong commitment to a quality work product.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate verbally, in writing
    and electronically.
  • Effective interpersonal skills as evidenced in the ability to collaborate with a variety of
    constituencies.

  • Skilled at
    communicating feedback verbally, in writing and electronically; and documenting performance via introductory and annual performance
    appraisals.
  • Skilled in developing and determining corrective employment/performance/behavioral strategies, as
    needed.
  • Demonstrated ability to design and execute performance improvement plans, conducting disciplinary action and/or determining
    the appropriateness of employment continuation.

Preferred Qualifications


  • Essential experience with managing
    tour guides or other cohorts of student employees.

EXPECTED HIRING RANGE: $68,640/yr-$73,100/yr

position at Occidental College, your final base salary compensation will be determined based on factors such as skills, education,
experience, and/or geographic location. In addition to those factors, Occidental complies with applicable pay equity laws and considers
internal equity among current employees when developing the final offer. Please keep in mind that the range mentioned above is the base
salary range for the role. Hiring at the maximum of the range would not be typical in order to allow for future and continued salary growth.
