Job Summary

Under the supervision of the Manager of Media Technology Services (MTS), the Audio Visual (AV)
Technician II is responsible for supporting operations and maintenance of the distance learning and video conferencing systems installed in
classrooms and auditoria across the UMass campus. These systems support multimodal courses that can be offered face-to-face, online, or in a
mixed format, and can have synchronous or asynchronous components. The individual in this position will provide set up and technical support
of the audio-visual equipment in teaching spaces across the campus as well as for university sponsored events. Additionally, the AV
Technician II will provide training to faculty and staff on the usage of the audio-visual and video conferencing equipment.

Essential Functions


Collaborates with campus stakeholders and works under the direction of Media Technology
Services to enhance campus video conferencing and workspace collaboration systems. Suggests, implements, and develops automations and
efficiency improvements to better serve the campus community.

Prepares clear and comprehensive documentation for the use of video
conferencing platforms and collaboration systems.


Regularly reviews platform features and security settings and presents proposed
updates for consideration.

Provides real-time troubleshooting during Zoom sessions, resolving sound, video, and connectivity issues,
and coordinating support with remote attendees as necessary.


Support the operation and maintenance of the distance learning video
conferencing classrooms and conference rooms, which includes scheduling training, troubleshooting connections with remote sites and working
with the equipment vendor when necessary to resolve technical problems.

Provide technical support and training for all audio-visual
equipment located in classrooms across campus.


Determine inventory levels for equipment. Maintain departmental records concerning
repair of equipment, ordering of replacement parts and equipment.

Provide training and technical support to faculty on use of
projection facilities including video/computer display devices in campus auditoria and classrooms.


Provide assistance to faculty on
choosing presentation settings for optimal display with video equipment.

Establish policies and procedures for unit operations,
including equipment use and maintenance schedules


Schedule and distribute audio visual equipment to campus locations as required.


Other Functions

When necessary, drive the MTS vehicles to transport audio visual equipment on campus.

Occasional travel to other UMass campus locations such as Newton, Springfield, and Gloucester to confer with multi-modal partners.


Perform other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications


Two (2) years’ of experience in
maintaining, repairing, and testing IP-based AV conferencing equipment. An associate degree or above in electronics, audio-visual technology
or related field of study may be substituted for one (1) year of the required experience.

Valid Driver’s License.


Experience
training clients on the proper use and care of audio-visual equipment.

Ability to read and interpret schematic drawings and manuals
of electronic equipment.


Ability to understand and carry out complex written and oral instructions.

Knowledge of PC and Mac
operating platforms.


Strong customer service skills.

Strong interpersonal skills.


Strong communication skills; both
oral and written.

Working Conditions


Work is performed in indoor and/or outdoor environments, and requires
frequent lifting, bending, tool use or equipment use. May involve work in confined spaces or at heights.

Pay Grade:
USA/MTA Grade 16
