Position Summary:
The AV Infrastructure Specialist serves as the primary technician and installer for Audio/Visual systems and
associated networking equipment, and Security systems supporting the academic, administrative, and campus safety technology needs of the
university. This position performs installation, configuration, maintenance, and troubleshooting of audio/visual (AV) systems, computer
networking infrastructure, and electronic security systems across classrooms, lecture halls, performance venues, offices, residence halls,
and campus facilities under the guidance of the Manager of Campus AV. The role requires close collaboration with faculty, staff, IT,
facilities, and campus safety to ensure reliable, secure, and well-documented systems that support teaching, learning, operations, and
safety.Audio/Visual Systems
-
Install, configure, maintain, and support AV systems for instructional spaces,
meeting rooms, and performance venues
Set up and troubleshoot projectors, displays, sound reinforcement systems, microphones, mixers,
amplifiers, DSPs, and control systems
-
Run, terminate, label, and test low-voltage cabling for audio, video, control, and data
systems -
Configure signal flow, gain structure, and basic system programming to ensure consistent and reliable
performance
-
Perform system testing, tuning, documentation, and user acceptance after installations or upgrades
Computer Networking & Infrastructure
-
Install and maintain structured cabling systems, including Cat5e/Cat6/Cat6A
and fiber optic cabling -
Terminate, test, label, and document network cabling, patch panels, racks, and
enclosures
-
Install and support network equipment such as switches, routers, wireless access points, and network
racks. -
Assist with basic network configuration, IP addressing, VLANs, and troubleshooting
-
Support AV-over-IP
and networked systems in coordination with campus IT staff
Security Camera & Access Control
Systems
-
Install, configure, and maintain electronic security systems, including IP-based security cameras, network video
recorders (NVRs), and video management systems (VMS) -
Mount and aim cameras, run and terminate low-voltage cabling, and verify
network connectivity and image quality
-
Assist with the installation and support of access control systems, including card
readers, door controllers, strikes, and associated hardware -
Work with campus safety, IT, and facilities to ensure security
systems meet institutional standards and policies
-
Troubleshoot camera, access control, and related network or power
issues -
Maintain accurate documentation of security system layouts, configurations, and cabling while adhering to
confidentiality and data security requirements
Campus & Operational Support
-
Read and interpret
construction drawings, system diagrams, and technical documentation
-
Coordinate with IT, facilities, campus safety, and
external vendors on installations, renovations, and upgrades -
Maintain accurate records of system configurations, service
requests, and repairs
-
Follow institutional standards, safety policies, and applicable building, electrical, and low-voltage
codes -
Assist with preventative maintenance, inventory management, and lifecycle planning of AV, network, and security
systems
-
Provide event, instructional, and operational support, including occasional evenings or weekends as
required -
This position will also be required to hire, support, and supervise student employees.

Required Qualifications
-
Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Audio Engineering,
Networking, Electronics, or a related field
OR a minimum of four (4) years of relevant professional experience in audio/visual systems,
computer networking, low-voltage infrastructure, or electronic security systems -
Demonstrated experience installing and
supporting AV, networking, and/or security systems
-
Working knowledge of audio signal flow, video standards, IP networking,
and low-voltage systems -
Experience using hand and power tools for AV, network, and security
installations
-
Ability to lift and carry equipment (up to approximately 50 lbs) and work on ladders or
lifts -
Valid driver’s license
Preferred Qualifications
-
Experience supporting
instructional technology and/or campus security systems in a higher education environment.
-
Industry certifications such as
CTS, CTS-I, CompTIA Network+, or relevant security system certifications -
Experience with AV control systems (Crestron,
Extron, Q-SYS, Daktronics, etc)
-
Familiarity with digital audio networking, AV-over-IP, and IP-based video surveillance
systems -
Experience with live sound or performance venue support
-
Knowledge of rack building, structured cabling
standards, labeling best practices, and security system documentation
Salary and Benefits:
The salary
range for this position is $52,200-$62,600. In addition to salary, Adams State University offers a competitive benefits program including
