The Bakery Hill Supervisor supports the Bakery Hill Manager in overseeing daily bakery and coffee shop
operations, including customer service, staff coordination, and inventory management. This role focuses on the production and sale of
pastries, cakes, and decorated goods for both retail and the Pastry Arts program at MCI. The Bakery Hill Supervisor also helps train staff
and co-op students, maintains a positive team environment, and serves as acting manager in the Manager’s absence.
Duties and
Responsibilities:
- Oversee production processes, morning procedures, and quality standards for all baked goods and pastry items.
- Assist Manager with pricing, merchandising, profitability, and catering/banquet production.
- Support new revenue
opportunities, marketing strategies, and special event product lines. - Manage purchasing, inventory, and equipment needs for bakery
operations. - Help with hiring, training, scheduling, and supervising cashier staff.
- Prepare reports, maintain records, and
use financial systems to ensure budget compliance. - Ensure cash handling, credit card transactions, and fiscal controls are properly
followed. - Maintain cleanliness, sanitation, and compliance with health inspections and the American Culinary Federations (ACF)
accreditation standards. - Works collaboratively with the Business Technologies Division (BTD), Deans, MCI Director, co-op
coordinators, and culinary/pastry arts. - Provide hands-on training experiences for co-op students in collaboration with faculty and
coordinators. - Enforce uniform and professional appearance standards.
- Participate in special events, promotions, tours, and
community activities as needed. - Act as Manager in their absence, including menu development and overseeing daily operations.
- Attend meetings, serve on committees, and perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Requirements:
- Associate degree in Culinary or Pastry Arts, or five years of pastry/baking or foodservice management experience.
- Pastry Arts certification from the American Culinary Federation and current ServSafe Manager certification.
- Proficiency
with business software (including spreadsheets). - Strong communication, organizational, and presentation skills; professional
demeanor; customer-service focus. - Ability to work independently and collaboratively with students, faculty, and diverse teams.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to stand for extended periods.
- Ability to lift up to 30 lbs.
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment.
