Join our Higher Education team as a Bursar’s Office Cashier – a critical front-line role that keeps our campus running smoothly while ensuring students and departments receive accurate, efficient, and welcoming financial support.

The Bursar’s Office is the financial heartbeat of the institution. As the Cashier, you are often the first and last interaction students and families have when managing their accounts. Your accuracy, professionalism, and customer-first mindset directly shape their experience.

What You’ll Do
- Process payments, deposits, reimbursements, and financial transactions with complete accuracy
- Verify and post payments to student accounts (in-person and via mail)
- Maintain daily cash handling responsibilities with zero tolerance for errors
- Verify all cash received and disbursed to prevent and report outages immediately
- Research and assist students and authorized users with:
- Account balances
- Charge details
- Payment plans
- Refunds
- General account activity
- Provide professional, responsive service in a high-volume environment
- Remain aware of customer flow to efficiently support those waiting for assistance
- Report discrepancies promptly to the Director
What We’re Looking For
Preferred Experience:
- Banking, teller, or cashier experience
- Proven record of accuracy in cash handling
- Customer service experience in an office setting

Job Related Minimum Required Education and Experience
Typically holds a high school diploma or GED. Requires 1 or more years of job related experience.
Preferred Qualifications
Banking/ Teller/ Cashier experience preferred. Customer service experience highly preferred with a record of proven accuracy and quality of service provided in an office environment with multiple distractions, interruptions, and repetitive tasks.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
Employee should have considerable knowledge of office procedures and must be able to communicate effectively – verbally and in writing. Employee must have the ability to perform cash handling duties with complete accuracy.
Job Duty
Verify and accurately enter payments to student accounts from individuals, departments, and organizations via mail and/or in person. Employee should consistently offer quality customer service while also maintaining an awareness of customer presence and volume in order to most effectively and efficiently service those who are waiting in line for assistance. Employee should always verify cash being disbursed and collected to ensure no cash outages are recorded/reported. Reports cash outages to the attention of the Director immediately.

Assist customers by guiding them to the correct area based on their particular needs. Employee should acknowledge customers as they enter the office and always maintain professionalism. Answer main office phone and voicemail as well as desk phone. Assist students, staff, and faculty in with inquiries. Research issues with student accounts. Maintain/ manage Bursar’s Office email account and respond to inquiries in a timely manner. Assist with ensuring cashier area remains organized, stocked, and clean. Other duties as assigned.

Collect, verify, balance, and secure cash daily. Prepare the daily cashier deposit reconciliation/balancing and summaries throughout the day for all payment types received. File daily deposit transmittals, and other receipting documents each day. Identify and research all transactions to process transactions more accurately and efficiently; as time allows, employee should perform trial balances throughout the day to ensure there are no outages and/or discrepancies in cash or other payment items.
