The office of communications and marketing is responsible for all aspects of promoting and telling the
story of Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine. The office implements marketing strategies and programs designed to further advance the
reputation of Cummings School and its hospitals and clinics. Key audiences served include prospective and current students, alumni,
referring veterinarians, prospective and current faculty and staff, donors, alternative funding sources, research community, government
officials, and current/future hospital clientele, etc.
What You’ll Do
The Communications Specialist
develops, writes, and edits all written content to be shared across digital and print platforms. Collaborating with communications team
members and campus partners, the role produces stories, profiles, articles, posts, emails, and web copy that highlight and showcase the
robust and comprehensive story of Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine. This role prioritizes storytelling by delivering content to our
primary audiences in support of recruitment and philanthropy
Essential functions as a Communication Specialist will
be:
- Coordinate, develop, write, and edit stories that support Cummings School’s Strategic Vision goals of Exceptional education,
extraordinary clinical care, transformative research, and sustainable culture. - Highlight Cummings School’s community (faculty,
staff, students, alums), clinical expertise across all six clinics and hospitals, and our veterinary diagnostic laboratory, clinical trials,
research enterprise, teaching and learning experience, special initiatives, awards and achievements, student organizations, and
events. - Craft content using best practices for accessibility, inclusivity, strategy, and governance.
- Write creative and
compelling marketing copy for a variety of mediums including external media, digital (web and email), and social media. - Copyedit,
fact-check, and proofread content across channels to ensure the highest level of quality, accuracy, and consistency in grammar, spelling,
punctuation, style, and tone. - Create content that aligns with Cummings School’s and Tufts brand and messaging strategy and
guidelines.
Please note this is a part-time 17.5 hour position.
What We’re Looking
For
Basic Requirements:
Knowledge and experience as typically acquired by:
- Bachelor’s
Degreein relevant field (English, Journalism, Marketing) - 3-5 yearsdemonstrated professional writing and editing
experience - Excellent writing, editing, and proofreading skills.
- Knowledge of AP style.
- Outstanding communication
and engagement abilities. - Reliable and efficient; able to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Attention to detail.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced work environment.
- Ability to build and maintain relationships with colleagues
and campus partners. - Strong interpersonal skills.
- Familiarization with SEO and AIO best practices.
Proficient
knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, Google Suite, and project management systems.
Preferred
Qualifications:
- Ability and interest to understand new technologies.
- Experience with content production in a higher
education environment.
Pay Range
Minimum $60,000.00, Midpoint $75,000.00, Maximum $90,100.00
Salary
is based on related experience, expertise, and internal equity; generally, new hires can expect pay between the minimum and midpoint of the
range.
