Job Description

The primary focus of this position is to advance strategic priorities of the Marshall University Joan C. Edwards School of Medicine (MU School of Medicine) related workforce development and professional development and education, with specific duties related to the Workforce and Professional Development Coordinator (hereinafter “WPD Coordinator”). This position is responsible for supporting, planning, and coordinating organizational activities including policy formulation, management of daily operations, and resource stewardship consistent with business objectives. It may oversee or assist in procurement, human resources, communications, finance, general operations, and/or office support. Provides operational leadership; requires creativity, and interpretive abilities to effectively resolve complex problems. Work effort has significant impact on personnel, budget and operations, producing major organizational, legal and financial results, and/or liability.

Duties and Responsibilities


  • Provide technical assistance and support at the request of the Marshall University Joan C. Edwards School of Medicine (JCESOM).
  • Develop and implement workforce and professional development strategies to advance individuals in WV.
  • Coordinate with other state, private, educational, and philanthropic organizations to advance workforce and professional development initiatives.
  • Organize, facilitate, and staff meetings/summits/workgroups that align with the Marshall University’s priorities of improving workforce and professional development strategies.
  • Be creative in developing strategies to help individuals re-enter the workforce, help businesses address barriers to improving their workforce, and address other initiatives that address education and career advancement
  • Pursue expansion of current projects including CORE and SOR funding.
  • Prioritize and respond timely and appropriately to requests for technical assistance and analytic/policy support related to Marshall University’s academic and planning strategic areas.
  • This position will support and coordinate operational function(s) under the guidance of the Division of Addiction Sciences. In addition, general sharing of knowledge and team participation is expected in this role. Program, project or activity lead responsibilities may occur in this position. WPD Coordinator will also be responsible for staff supervision and guidance.
  • The incumbent will typically perform the duties of this position within a general office environment, although travel up to 20% of the time, as well as telecommuting, will be required. Sitting for long periods, standing, and some lifting may be necessary.
  • Operates various types of office equipment & machinery.
  • Activities will require manual skill to provide and/or alter services and/or products.


Required Skills

  • Familiarity with project management tools and/or software packages.
  • Demonstrated leadership in facilitation, guidance, coordination, and overseeing teams of people.
  • Experience working in a team-oriented, collaborative environment.
  • Ability to rapidly adapt and respond to changes in environment and priorities.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, problem solving, and analytical skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to operate a personal computer utilizing various word processing packages such as Word, Excel, Power Point, etc. for reports, graphs and presentation development.
  • Strong time and workload management skills.
  • Strong communication skills in interacting with persons of various social, cultural, economic and educational backgrounds.
  • Knowledge of the structure and content of the English language including the meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition, and grammar.
  • Knowledge of principles and processes for providing partner support services. This includes partnership needs assessment, meeting quality standards for services, and evaluation of partner satisfaction.
  • Ability to coordinate many different administrative tasks, determine relative importance of each set deadlines, and complete projects in a timely manner.
  • Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

Workplace Environment


  • Typical office environment with shared space except while traveling or telecommuting where exposure to varying weather elements is to be expected.
  • Incumbent is responsible to know and comply with all safety procedures.

A valid driver’s license is a requirement of the position.

Salary Range: Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience.



Education

  • Bachelor’s degree with a preferred focus in education, project management, public administration, curriculum development, substance use education, or a related field


Experience

  • 3 – 5 years of program management and/or government experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.


Experience

  • Experience working in or knowledge of health care policy, and/or health insurance strongly preferred.
  • Experience working with substance use disorder or mental health programs strongly preferred.
