Job Summary

The Data Strategist for Student Success
Analytics (DSSSA) will be responsible for leading the strategy of data collection, analysis, and communication of findings for programs and
services across the Division of Enrollment Management and Student Success (EMASS). This position will work with the Senior Vice President of
EMASS, Associate Vice President for Student Success and Retention, unit leaders within EMASS, and others to develop and execute
comprehensive analysis plans that measure student outcomes, operational goals, and program alignment with the university’s strategic plan.
The DSSSA will establish methods of analytics and research that will drive decision-making for operational effectiveness in service
delivery, programming, and policy development. This role will directly impact how EMASS leverages data to enhance student
success.



Job Duties

The Data Strategist for Student Success Analytics (DSSSA) will be responsible for
leading the strategy of data collection, analysis, and communication of findings for programs and services across the Division of Enrollment
Management and Student Success (EMASS). This position will work with the Senior Vice President of EMASS, Associate Vice President for
Student Success and Retention, unit leaders within EMASS, and others to develop and execute comprehensive analysis plans that measure
student outcomes, operational goals, and program alignment with the university’s strategic plan. The DSSSA will establish methods of
analytics and research that will drive decision-making for operational effectiveness in service delivery, programming, and policy
development. This role will directly impact how EMASS leverages data to enhance student success. The DSSSA is responsible for the
following:



  • Developing and deploying analytic solutions to support the business intelligence, decision support, and predictive
    modeling needs of the Division of Enrollment Management and Student Success
  • Developing and executing a strategy for data collection
    across multiple platforms and from a variety of third-party sources, then transforming and leveraging that data for analytical use
  • Analyzing and presenting data to conduct issue-based analysis with clear proactive insights and action-oriented recommendations
  • Using quantitative and qualitative data analysis methods to identify and resolve operational problems and measure the achievement of
    EMASS goals
  • Performing advanced data extraction and leveraging data analytics expertise to identify and understand organizational
    needs and contribute to the formation and execution of strategy
  • Reporting and recommending key findings and outcomes to inform
    strategic planning from a data analysis perspective
  • Responding to data requests by identifying the correct data source, developing
    the logic to extract the data, and creating insights based on the analysis of the extracted data
  • Analyzing, monitoring, and
    revising data storage and access processes
  • Analyzing and preparing reports for key stakeholders using digestible data visualization
    techniques that inform the decision-making process
  • Converting data into a variety of usable formats and media
  • Testing,
    documenting, and performing quality assurance on data, and when necessary, enhancing data infrastructure to ensure operational
    efficiency
  • Providing analytical and technical support for academic departments and administrative units to aid in data-driven
    decision-making
  • Identifying appropriate assessment strategies that support the strategic plans of EMASS and its individual
    departments, as well as the university’s strategic plan, utilizing proven, reliable research methods through direct and indirect
    measures
  • Working with leadership and cross-functional teams to create a thorough division-wide assessment strategy to enhance and
    improve the student experience and support institutional priorities
  • Performing analyses using various statistical methods and
    techniques with a broad range of tools for data manipulation and visualization reporting, including R, Python, Tableau, and/or Power BI
  • Supporting the EMASS work in the exploration of multiple research topics to be developed for publication related specifically to
    university student success initiatives and programs, and related generally to best practices in higher education programs focusing on
    retention, progression, and graduation
  • Training users and developers in methods of identifying correct data sources for various
    requests, developing extraction logic, and determining best business practices in functional offices
  • Performing other duties as
    assigned

Requested Minimum Qualifications

EDUCATION:
The successful candidate
must have a Master’s Degree from an accredited college or university.


EXPERIENCE:
At least five years of
professional and/or higher education experience is required.

A highly-qualified candidate should possess:

  • Proficiency in querying and scoping (Power BI, SQL), analysis
    (Excel, V-lookup, pivot tables), summarizing (pivot tables, charts, slides, written explanations), reporting (dashboards, reports), and data
    visualization (Power BI, Tableau, Excel, Qlik, etc.)
  • Knowledge of data processing principles and practices.
  • Knowledge of
    relational database principles and ability to work across digital platforms and develop data analytical strategies.
  • Experience with
    statistical programming languages such as R, Stata, SAS, or Python for data manipulation and analysis.
  • Knowledge of data
    administration in higher education.
  • Effective time management, customer service, analytical, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to multitask and use independent judgment.
  • Experience with or ability to understand the current research, including
    promising practices, in student success and retention, student transition and development, behavioral science, and community and belonging,
    to effectively make an impact on key goals and outcomes.
  • Proven experience successfully leading change and fostering collaboration
    across units and functional areas.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills with experience creating and delivering effective
    presentations to internal and external audiences.
  • Demonstrated ability to listen, to synthesize information from a variety of
    constituents, and use that information to build consensus and/or make decisions.
  • Excellent organizational skills with the ability
    to effectively prioritize, coordinate, and/or facilitate multiple projects and deadlines independently or with limited supervision.
  • Ability to ask the right questions to get the right information.
  • Proficient with qualitative and quantitative data analysis
    methods.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and manage a small staff
