Job Description Summary:
The Dean for
Strategic Scheduling is an operational leadership role responsible for executing the academic scheduling vision and strategy established by
Academic Affairs leadership. The Dean ensures high-quality, consistent, data-informed implementation of districtwide course scheduling
practices across programs, campuses, and modalities.
The Dean manages the Strategic Scheduling Hub, supervises the Academic Affairs
Scheduling Team, leads the Strategic Scheduling Steering Committee, and serves as a primary conduit between Academic Affairs and
districtwide IT governance structures related to scheduling technologies. The role emphasizes operational excellence, process consistency,
and continuous improvement.



Job Description:

Supervision Received and Exercised


Administrators
report to the Chancellor (or designee) and work under general supervision with considerable latitude for the use of initiative and
independent judgment. They are responsible for supervising a team of support staff and collaborating with other college administrators to
ensure the effective implementation of student support programs. The Administrator exercises supervision over professional, technical, and
clerical staff, ensuring that all tasks are performed efficiently and in alignment with the college’s mission and goals. Regular performance
evaluations and ongoing professional development are integral components of the supervisory role, fostering a culture of continuous
improvement and excellence.

Competency Expectations


  • Provide leadership in strategic and operational planning and the
    formulation of goals, policies, and procedures for a program or office.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of continuous improvement
    processes, collaborate with the college community to improve these processes.
  • Serve on collegewide committees and working groups
    that may involve academic assessment, general education, or related subjects.
  • Coach, direct, mentor, evaluate, and counsel assigned
    personnel while adhering to organizational human resource policies and procedures as well as related employment laws. Recommend personnel
    actions including hiring, progressive discipline, or termination for positions managed.
  • Oversee the approved budgets for assigned
    areas and functions.
  • Provide leadership in the development, implementation, and maintenance curriculum and programs that respond to
    community needs; prepares students for success; and meet the external requirements of applicable specialized accrediting organizations such
    as the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC) and the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board
    (THECB).

Description of Duties and Tasks

Operational Leadership & Reporting


  • Executes the scheduling strategy
    and direction set by the Vice Chancellor of Academic Affairs and Academic Affairs leadership.
  • Collaborates with AVCs for Academic
    Programs, Workforce Education, and Health Sciences to implement priorities within their programmatic areas, including both credit and
    non-credit priorities.
  • Collaborates with the AVC for College and High School Relations to ensure the cohesive execution of the
    districtwide Academic Affairs scheduling strategy with unified timelines and processes.
  • Collaborates with the Office of Curriculum
    Management to ensure logistical and tactical support for scheduling strategy.
  • Collaborates with Academic Affairs Operations Managers
    to implement districtwide Academic Affairs scheduling strategy.
  • Ensures scheduling operations are aligned with institutional goals,
    student-centric, and follow district standards and practices.

Strategic Scheduling Implementation

  • Leads the operational
    execution of districtwide academic scheduling targets for seat utilization, modality balance, enrollment growth, and campus
    alignment.
  • Provides centralized operational support for schedule development across instructional programs.
  • Oversees the
    centralized schedule build, including program-map alignment, room utilization, section planning, and part-of-term scheduling
    logistics.

Data-Informed Operations & Continuous Improvement


  • Conducts ongoing monitoring of fill rates, room utilization,
    modality mix, student access, and progression pathways.
  • Oversees the Strategic Scheduling Hub, ensuring clear, transparent, and
    updated data resources.
  • Implements updates and refinements to scheduling processes as guided by Academic Affairs
    leadership.
  • Produces the annual schedule performance report and routine operational summaries.

Operations, Systems, and
Technology

  • Oversees the operational use of scheduling systems to support planning, analysis, and iteration.
  • Conducts data
    reviews and provides thematic operational insights to instructional divisions.
  • Acts as a primary conduit between the IT Governance
    Structure for scheduling-related software and Academic Affairs, ensuring operational needs, practices, and policies are communicated,
    aligned, and implemented consistently.
  • Serves as the operational liaison to scheduling- and planning-related technology
    vendors.

Cross-Functional Collaboration & Governance


  • Leads the Strategic Scheduling Steering Committee, ensuring
    cross-functional coordination, timeline alignment, and transparent communication related to districtwide scheduling
    operations.
  • Works closely with the Office of Institutional Research and Analytics on data strategy, dashboards, surveys, and
    analytic needs.
  • Collaborates with Strategic Events and Facilities and Operations to ensure efficient room use and conflict
    resolution.
  • Coordinates with Student Affairs to ensure scheduling supports enrollment operations and student needs including
    registration-related systems and processes.
  • Facilitates clear, consistent two-way communication related to scheduling processes,
    timelines, and expectations.

Training, Documentation, and Operational Stewardship

  • Provides training and technical guidance
    to instructional leaders and staff on scheduling processes and tools.
  • Maintains documentation, process maps, timelines, and web
    content; curates the Strategic Scheduling website.
  • Manages all districtwide scheduling calendars, cycles, and
    deadlines.


Supervision

  • Supervises the Academic Affairs Scheduling Team, ensuring coordinated workflow, mentoring, staff
    development, and performance management.
  • Responsible for operational excellence, capacity building, and performance evaluation
    within the scheduling unit.

Job Requirements

  • Demonstrated expertise in project

Minimum Qualifications



Education:

  • Master’s degree. Experience cannot
    be substituted for required, applicable educational level.


Experience:

  • Five years related work experience
    including management in a higher education academic environment.

Preferred Qualifications


Education:

  • Doctorate in Curriculum and Instruction or other Academic
    Field.


Experience:

  • Experience in a community college environment.
  • Direct experience with scheduling
    platforms in an academic setting.
