Description:

The Division of
Undergraduate Academic Affairs (UAA) is searching for a Director of Academic Transition Programs (ATP) to oversee curriculum and
programmatic efforts for all students in transition with a particular focus on new students entering the university. The portfolio includes
oversight of University Seminars (UNIV), First-Year Seminars (FYS), and several programmatic initiatives including Summer Bridge and
partnering with Student Affairs to support campus Living-Learning Communities.

designed to guide students as they transition into, through, and out of their university experience. The department offers dynamic academic
courses that focus on timely, relevant topics aimed to foster growth for all students, both in and out of the classroom. Both curriculum and
programmatic efforts continuously evolve to address the changing needs of the UMBC campus community, empowering students to thrive at every
stage of their academic journey and beyond. ATP is housed within the Division
of Undergraduate Academic Affairs
(UAA) – working collaboratively and independently to offer courses and programs that contribute to
student success and support of the broader mission of the division and the university.

Position Overview:



Reporting
to the Division of Undergraduate Academic Affairs, the Director of Academic Transition Programs is responsible for oversight of all academic
transition curriculum and programmatic efforts supporting new first-year and transfer students as well as second year and graduating
students. Primary areas of responsibility include: developing and implementing academic transition courses through University Seminars
(UNIV), offering General Education Program (GEP) courses specifically for new students through First-Year Seminars (FYS), oversight of
Summer and Winter transition opportunities, including Summer Bridge, and oversight of the academic components of the Living-Learning
Communities in partnership with the Division of Student Affairs. 


Incumbent will assist with the creation and implementation of
a mandatory new student experience, ongoing development of curriculum to support transfer students/second-year students/graduating students,
assessing all ATP initiatives, and serving as a partner to a variety of departments across campus to advance student success and retention.
Position includes supervision of the ATP staff consisting of two Assistant Directors, one Program Coordinator, and one Executive
Administrative Assistant, and oversight of all instructional faculty, staff, and teaching assistants who teach within the
department.

Responsibilities:

Primary
Responsibilities Include: 


  • Provide oversight of all curriculum and programming to support first-year, second-year,
    transfer, and graduating students in transition (including Academic Transition Courses, Academic Components of Living-Learning Communities
    in partnership with Student Affairs, New Student Experience Programs, and the Summer Bridge Program)
  • Analyze and assess all
    curriculum and programmatic efforts for effectiveness in supporting student success, transition, and retention

  • Supervise
    ATP staff as well as organize, schedule, and manage the ATP office suite recruit


  • Hire, train, and indirectly supervise all
    faculty/staff instructors and teaching assistants for Academic Transition Courses

  • Directly oversee ATP budget and make
    decisions that demonstrate fair and equitable budget distribution across curriculum and programs


  • Serve on ATP, UAA, and
    University-Wide Committees that relate to the mission of ATP and/or UAA and develop and maintain partnerships across campus to support ATP
    curriculum and programs as well as UAA division-wide efforts

Required Minimum Qualifications:

  • Master’s
    Degree in Higher Education/Student Affairs or a related field
  • Five years of professional experience in Higher Education

Preferred Qualifications: 


  • Doctoral Degree (In Higher Education/Student Affairs or Related Field)
  • Experience with Curriculum Development & Assessment 
  • Experience with Budget Oversight
  • Previous Leadership
    and/or Supervision Experience 
  • Understanding of Student Retention/Success/Transition Efforts

Salary:

Salary: $97,709 to $110,183 depending on qualifications and
experience.

The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited
to, internal equity, budget, prior experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business
considerations.


The above salary range represents the University’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible
compensation at the time of posting.
