Director of Curriculum and Transition Programming



SALARY: $98,354.00- $128,377.00

Job Description:


Responsible to the Principal, Supervisors, and designated representatives

Basic Function of Position:


  • To effectively assist the principal in the administration and supervision of the educational program within the school
  • Provides in-service workshops to support/maintain the school’s mission and vision
  • Provides Professional development to the community at-large (in house and on location throughout New Jersey)

General Responsibilities:

  • Within the approved limits of authority and in compliance with all applicable rules, regulations and policies of NJCU and the New Jersey Administrative Code, the Director of Curriculum and Transition Programing is responsible for assisting the Principal in the effective performance of the following:
  • Curriculum development and evaluation
  • Personnel administration
  • Administration of pupil personal services
  • School-Parent-Community relationships & Administration and supervision of Federal and State programs
  • Thorough and efficient management
  • Physical plant & Instructional materials and supplies & Financial management
  • Grant writing and management

Specific Responsibilities:



1. Curriculum Development and Evaluation:

  • Provides for the organization and content of curriculum

* Formulates curriculum* Relates curriculum to time commitment, physical facilities, instructional materials, and equipment


  • Supervises and supports instruction
  • Provides materials, resources, and equipment for the instructional program
  • Provides, plans, and arranges for resource personnel to provide in-service programs


2. Personnel Administration:

  • Selects, schedules, and assigns educators

* Provides for the orientation of new staff and continuing staff development*


  • Promotes morale
  • Maintains personnel records as appropriate


3. Administration of Pupil Personnel Services:

  • Directs all pupil personnel services assigned and available in the following areas:
  • Health services
  • Related services &Technology services
  • Library/multi-media services & Food service program
  • Transportation & Child study team
  • Guidance and counseling
  • Testing and evaluation
  • Establishes and administers the discipline of educators
  • Provides for availability and use of audio/visual materials
  • Maintains accurate records
  • Promotes, supports, and administers school-parent-community relationships


4. School-Parent-Community Relationships:


  • Utilizes and directs effective programs through:
  • News releases & PTO programs
  • Personal appearances & Inter-agency cooperation & Parental conferences & Special school programs


5. Administration and Supervision of Federal and State Programs:

  • Schedules, supervises, and evaluates educators
  • Maintains records


6. Thorough and Efficient Management:


  • Provides professional leadership in the development of “thorough and efficient” programs as legislated
  • Implements required system of reporting to the Principal or designated representatives


7. Maintenance of the Physical Facilities:

  • Determines the needs and develops an efficient program of facility maintenance
  • Develops a plan for the orderly growth and improvement of school facilities
  • Recommends a program of repair, replacement, and structural changes when necessary
  • Supervises the custodial staff


8. Provision of Instructional Materials and Supplies:


  • Orders and maintains logistical support throughout the school
  • Meets the needs of assigned special services
  • Distributes and inventories supplies
  • Selects, requisitions, distributes, and evaluates textbooks and related materials


9. Financial System Management:

* Implements program-oriented budgeting* Maintains school financial records



10. Grant Writing:

  • Assists in identifying grant opportunities
  • Collaborates with the Principal in writing and submitting grant proposals


11. Mentorship:

  • Acts as a mentor at the Principal’s request


12. Additional Duties:* Assumes other duties and responsibilities as may be assigned by the Principal of Schools or his/her designee


13. School Safety and Security:


  • Develops, implements, and evaluates school safety and security policies and procedures

* Coordinates with local law enforcement and other agencies to ensure a safe learning environment* Oversees safety drills and emergency response planning


14. Threat Assessments in Schools:* Collaborates with the school’s threat assessment team and other stakeholders to identify, assess, and manage potential threats to the school community


* Ensures that the school’s threat assessment procedures align with state and federal guidelines* Provides training to staff on recognizing and reporting potential threats


15. Anti-Bullying Initiatives:*


  • Develops and implements anti-bullying policies and procedures in accordance with state and federal guidelines.
  • Oversees the investigation and resolution of bullying incidents
  • Provides training to staff and students on bullying prevention and intervention
  • Collaborates with parents, community members, and other stakeholders to promote a safe and inclusive school environment

Evaluation: The performance of this job will be evaluated annually by the Principal in accordance with New Jersey State Law and the provisions of the policy on the evaluation of certified staff.
