Position Summary:


The Lead Electrician serves as the primary technical expert and working supervisor for electrical systems across campus facilities. This
position ensures the safe installation, operation, maintenance, and repair of electrical equipment and infrastructure in compliance with the
National Electrical Code (NEC), state regulations, and university standards. The Lead Electrician provides leadership to electrical staff,
coordinates with contractors, and collaborates with Facilities Management leadership to support a reliable, energy-efficient, and safe
campus environment for students, faculty, and staff.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:


Lead and
perform installation, troubleshooting, repair, and preventive maintenance of electrical systems, equipment, and fixtures in academic,
residential, and auxiliary facilities.

Supervise, train, and schedule assigned electricians and electrical helpers; provide guidance
and performance feedback.


Interpret blueprints, technical diagrams, and electrical schematics for planning and execution of
projects.

Utility marking for ATU’s private utilities.


Boiler and utility meter rounding.

Knowledge, Skills,
and Abilities:


Extensive knowledge of electrical theory, practices, tools, and equipment used in
commercial/institutional settings.

Ability to lead, mentor, and supervise technical staff effectively.


Proficiency in
diagnosing and repairing electrical systems including switchgear, lighting, controls, motors, and emergency power systems.

Ability to
read and interpret blueprints, specifications, and technical manuals.


Strong organizational and time-management skills with attention
to detail.

Effective communication skills (oral and written) for interaction with staff, contractors, and campus stakeholders.


Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.

Minimum Requirements:


High
school diploma or equivalent required; technical or vocational training in electrical systems preferred.

Minimum of five (5) years of
experience in electrical installation, maintenance, and repair in a commercial, industrial, or institutional setting.


Arkansas
Journeyman Electrician License required; Master Electrician License strongly preferred.

Valid driver’s license and ability to meet
university vehicle use requirements.


Preferred Qualifications:

Arkansas Journeyman or Master
Electrician License


Experience supervising staff in a facilities management or institutional setting.

Knowledge of low-voltage
systems (fire alarms, security, communications).


Familiarity with energy management systems (EMS) and building automation systems
(BAS).

Experience working in higher education, healthcare, or large commercial facilities.


Work Location,
Environment, and Physical Demands:

Primarily working at the Russellville main campus with an occasional


Work is
performed across university campus buildings, including academic, residential, and athletic facilities.

Regular exposure to
electrical hazards, heights, confined spaces, and various weather conditions.


Requires use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and
adherence to strict safety protocols.

Physical demands include frequent standing, walking, bending, lifting up to 50 pounds, and
climbing ladders or scaffolding.


On-call availability for emergencies and occasional evening or weekend work required.
