Then consider joining the Finance Strategy & Solutions team, in the university’s Finance & Budget division, as our next Finance Specialist.


Finance personnel on the Finance Strategy & Solutions team provide excellent financial and business support to administrators and staff in the units we partner with to accomplish the university mission. This position will support a portfolio of central units at the university with their financial needs while also collaborating within the larger finance community of Finance & Budget. A successful candidate will apply general business theory and principles to daily operations. This position will work on the Payments team to ensure goals and objectives are accomplished in accordance and within established policies, procedures, and priorities.

Duties & Responsibilities


Daily Operational Support:

  • Manages daily financial activity including PCard reconciliation, monthly account reconciliation, cash handling, and fund management.
  • Provides support in the coordination of a financial function.
  • Responds to routine financial inquiries and escalates complex issues to appropriate departments or staff.
  • Assists in the preparation of departmental financial reports.

Review & Compliance:


  • Completes routine review and reconciliation duties, generally with low complexity and variation.
  • Reviews all documentation to ensure all necessary documents are submitted; including payment support, travel documents, and accounting support documents.
  • Ensures all submitted and supporting documentation meets compliance standards and policy requirements.
  • Ensure compliance with university financial policies and procedures.

Transactional Support:

  • Initiates routine and standard financial transactions and billing documents including but not limited to: Disbursement Vouchers, Purchase Orders, Interdepartmental Billings, Cash Receipts, etc.
  • Under direction of supervisors, submits supporting transactions as needed depending on unit function. 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs):


  • Ability to use Microsoft Office programs.
  • Basic knowledge of financial functions.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High school diploma or high school diploma equivalency is required.
  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience, or equivalent combination of education and work experience.

Preferred Qualifications


  • Experience using the University’s enterprise systems (e.g., Financials and Analytics).
