Job Description:
SUNY Oneonta is seeking a
Financial Aid Assistant to join our wonderful team for an approximate one-year appointment in the Office of Financial Aid
and Scholarships. You would be joining an eight-member team that works closely together, and in collaboration with departments across
campus, to help award and manage more than $69 million in financial aid each year for roughly 5,500 to 6,000 students.
By the end of
your one-year appointment, you’ll be well-versed in the many opportunities our campus has to offer, and you may not want to leave. While
this role is a temporary one-year position, you’ll have the opportunity to apply for other openings on campus as they become available,
allowing you to continue building relationships with our team and enjoy the great benefits SUNY has to offer.
In this role, you will
help keep our office running smoothly by managing daily operations and supporting students, families, and colleagues. We’re looking for
someone who is organized, dependable, and comfortable working in a fast-paced environment while delivering excellent customer service. This
position reports to the Assistant Director of Financial Aid.

Duties include but are not limited to:
- Managing in-person student traffic and a high volume of telephone and email inquiries proficiently.
- Providing outstanding
customer service to prospective and current students and their families, guiding them through the financial aid process. - Recognizing
and completing high priority tasks in a timely manner. - Scheduling appointments, processing daily reports, and performing special
projects to assist members of the Financial Aid and Scholarships team. - Resolving student issues and inquiries thoughtfully and
directing students to appropriate student services offices as needed. - Retrieving and disseminating data for aid production and
operations. - Managing private educational and federal Direct PLUS Loan processes, certifying loans, identifying adjustments, and
processing de-certifications and denials. - Processing and matching FAFSA records in the student information system database (Ellucian
Banner). - Assisting in the development and delivery of informational resources for students, families, and
colleagues. - Applying financial aid office policies and procedures, while maintaining current federal and state regulations and
guidelines. - Receiving and scanning sensitive documents, while ensuring security of personally identifiable
information. - Performing outreach to professors and colleagues to determine last date of attendance for withdrawn
students. - Tracking monthly traffic reporting to Director and AVP.
- Participating in professional development
opportunities.
Salary: $51,261. SUNY Oneonta is a Public Service Loan Forgiveness (PSLF) qualifying employer.

Requirements:
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or
university. - Experience providing customer service in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong written communication and
organizational skills as evidenced in your application materials. - Computer competency with commonly used software, such as Microsoft
Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)
Preferred:
- Two or more years of experience providing
customer service in a fast-paced environment. - Experience working in higher education.
- Experience working with and serving
diverse populations.
