Job Description:


The Sandra Day O’Connor College of Law seeks a dynamic and detail-oriented individual to join the Office of Admissions and Financial Aid and support students at the College of Law with the full scope of their financial aid needs. The Financial Aid Coordinator will work under the direction of the Assistant Dean of Admissions and Financial Aid and also work closely with the Director of Financial Aid and the Office of Student Life. This position will provide financial aid advising, evaluation, compliance, and reporting for all degree programs at the law school. The Coordinator will also assist the admissions staff with recruitment, scholarships, and administrative duties. The university’s Student Financial Aid and Scholarship Services Office (FASS) is the university’s authority on all financial aid matters, and the Coordinator will work in close collaboration with the FASS and under the policies and directives set by the FASS for financial aid operations.

Salary Range: $45,000 – $50,000 per year; DOE


Essential Duties:

· The successful candidate will be responsible for and have duties in the following areas:


· Participates in the planning, goal setting, and evaluation of the financial aid process and operations.

· Effectively communicates information about financial aid and the College of Law to prospective, incoming, and enrolled students across all degree programs at the law school, including delivering presentations to groups, holding individual advising appointments, presenting at information sessions and panels, and maintaining student-facing information and resources


· Manages a high volume of student inquiries and counseling sessions, and provides a high level of individualized support to students

· Provides counseling and advising about financial aid opportunities, eligibility, and procedures via email, telephone, video/Zoom, in person, and through social media platforms


· Supports collecting and analyzing financial data to determine aid eligibility, make awards within federal, donor and/or institutional guidelines, and track requirements

· Interfaces with lenders, employers, donors, guarantee agencies and/or staff to communicate required information and resolve issues


· Help coordinate the administration of financial aid programs and reporting

· Assists with office administrative duties, including front desk coverage, answering phones, responding to emails, document upload, and other tasks for both admissions and financial aid


· Works closely with the FASS and Director of Financial Aid to ensure high quality and accountability in all work, attend meetings and trainings to stay updated on developments, and interpret federal regulations, guidelines, pending legislation and professional literature on financial aid

· Maintains scholarship database for the law school and works closely with the law school development team to ensure that all scholarships are properly administered and help manage law school scholarship accounts.


· Uses professional judgment in assessing financial aid needs and makes adjustments to individual student aid accounts accordingly.

· Administers short-term loan funds as needed for law students


· Physical presence at the College of Law is an essential function or requirement of this job

· Performs other duties as assigned that benefit goals of the department.


Desired Qualifications:

· Demonstrated knowledge of ASU and ASU Sandra Day O’Connor College of Law.


· Demonstrated knowledge of financial aid policies and procedures.

· Experience in financial aid counseling.


· Experience working with a wide range of constituencies.

· Experience working with graduate and professional students.


· Experience giving presentations about financial aid; demonstrated written and public speaking skills.

· Experience with financial aid systems; high technological proficiency.


· Experience sharing financial aid content.

Working Environment:


· Activities are performed in an environmentally controlled office setting subject to extended periods of sitting, keyboarding, and manipulating a computer mouse.

· Required to stand for varying lengths of time and walk moderate distances to perform work.


· Frequent bending, reaching, lifting, pushing and pulling up to 25 pounds.

· Regular activities require ability to quickly change priorities which may include and/or are subject to resolution of conflicts.


· Ability to clearly communicate to perform essential functions.

· Use standard office equipment including, but not limited to: computer workstation/laptop (keyboard, monitor and mouse), printer, fax, calculator, copier, telephone and associated computer/technology peripherals.
