Job Summary
The
Financial Aid Program Specialist is responsible for administering and managing federal, state, institutional, and private financial aid and
scholarship programs. This role ensures compliance with all applicable regulations and provides excellent support to students and the
university community. The successful candidate will demonstrate strong organizational, analytical, and communication skills, along with a
commitment to the mission and values of the University of Michigan?Dearborn.

Michigan Dearborn (UM-Dearborn) is one of three campuses of the University of Michigan. Serving over 8,000 students, UM-Dearborn offers
high-quality undergraduate, graduate, professional, and continuing education programs to the southeastern Michigan community. Faculty and
students collaborate across all three campuses on research and scholarship. Located just ten miles west of Detroit and 35 miles east of Ann
Arbor, UM-Dearborn sits on 200 suburban acres of the historic Henry Ford Estate in the Greater Detroit Metropolitan
region.
Responsibilities*
Program Administration
- Oversee the processing and
administration of financial aid programs across multiple funding sources. - Administer and reconcile financial aid funds.
Prepare
reports and provide data to external donors and organizations.
Compliance & Reporting
- Perform monthly
reconciliations with the Financial Services department. - Monitor compliance and over-award reports, making adjustments as
needed. - Evaluate financial and personal documentation submitted by applicants.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of federal,
state, and institutional regulations. - Maintain up-to-date knowledge of federal, state, and institutional

Customer Service & Support
- Serve as the primary resource for staff and other departments
regarding financial aid program administration. - Provide support and guidance to diverse student populations.
- Determine aid
eligibility using professional judgment and analytical tools. - Troubleshoot and resolve issues related to awarding and
disbursement.
Professional Development & Representation
- Stay current with changes in federal, state, and
institutional policies through training and professional development. - Represent UM-Dearborn at conferences, workshops, and training
sessions. - Contribute to special projects and office initiatives.
Skills You Have
- Strong knowledge
of Title IV financial aid programs and regulations (preferred). - Ability to communicate effectively with diverse
populations. - Strong problem-solving skills and sound professional judgment.
- Excellent organizational skills, with attention
to detail and prioritization. - Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a team-oriented environment.
- Proven commitment to
delivering high-quality customer service. - Ability to manage multiple responsibilities in a fast-paced
setting.
Required Qualifications*
- Bachelor’s degree.
- At least 3 years of financial aid
experience. - Knowledge of Title IV regulations preferred.
- Experience with integrated database systems (Ellucian Banner
preferred) and document imaging (ImageNow preferred). - Strong data analysis and reporting skills.
- Excellent organizational
skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities. - Proven ability to work independently and resolve complex
problems. - Strong interpersonal, communication, and conflict-resolution skills.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality of
financial and personal information. - Must not be in default or overpayment on any Title IV federal programs.
Desired
Qualifications*
- Experience with Banner Student Information System and Ellucian Student Financial Success products (e.g.,
Scholarship Universe, Student Forms, Campus Communicator).
