The Facility Operations
department exists to serve students, faculty and staff by maintaining an environment conducive to learning and efficient operations. Our
department offers Building Custodial Services, Building Maintenance Services, Construction Projects, Grounds and Landscape Maintenance and
Mail Services.


Job Summary

  • Performs semi-skilled maintenance and repair on HVAC systems. Checks air vents and
    installs window air conditioning units.
  • Assembles, installs and/or repairs wiring, electrical and electronic components, machinery,
    equipment, and appliances.
  • Repairs and performs minor maintenance on pipe systems and plumbing fixtures including repair of faucet
    leaks, vandal-proof stoppers, and shower heads. Clears drains using plunger and spring.
  • Diagnoses mechanical problems and determines
    corrective steps, checking blueprints, repair manuals, and parts catalogs as necessary.
  • Performs routine preventive maintenance to
    ensure that machines continue to run smoothly, building systems operate efficiently, and the physical condition of buildings does not
    deteriorate.
  • Repairs or replaces defective equipment parts using hand tools and power tools, and reassembles
    equipment.
  • Repairs and replaces dry wall, paint, screens, glass, doors and door hardware, shade blinds, furniture, lamps, handrails,
    ceiling, and floor tiles, baseboard molding strips, etc. Repairs desk lamps, ceiling lights, sweepers, wet vacs, etc. Replaces light
    switches, ceiling lights, and fluorescent fixtures.
  • Maintains parts, supplies, and equipment and advises supervisor when supplies
    need to be ordered. Uses tools ranging from common hand and power tools, such as hammers, hoists, saws, drills, and wrenches, to precision
    measuring instruments and electrical and electronic testing devices.
  • Assists in directing the work of others.
  • Performs other
    duties and responsibilities as assigned, including general building maintenance duties. Drives University vehicles as needed. Works any
    shift as needed. Works 24-hour a day emergency response as needed. Assists with snow removal activities as necessary.

EDUCATION


Required

  • High school diploma or equivalent (such as
    HSED or GED)


WORK EXPERIENCE


Required

  • 2 years multi-craft maintenance experience in
    facilities upkeep

LICENSES AND CERTIFICATES



Required

  • Valid drivers license and
    ability to be insured by Indiana University upon date of hire

Working Conditions / Demands


This role requires the ability to remain in a
stationary position as well as the ability to move about the workplace for long durations. It requires effective communication, the ability
to operate machinery, tools, and controls. The role requires the ability to ascend/descend ladders/stairs, and to position one’s self in low
level positions, detect a variety of chemicals and/or gases. The role requires the ability to ascend to rooftops and move in tight spaces to
perform and complete inspections. The person in this role must be able to perform the essential functions with or without an
accommodation.


Must be available to work during inclement weather (i.e. snow and ice) when weather emergencies dictate that the
department is needed to take care of the campus.

$45,760 – $47,840 annually

Second shift position

Monday –
Friday 11:00 AM – 8:00 PM
