TITLE: Grounds Assistant (Part-Time)

STANDARD WORK HOURS: Up to 20 hours per week
LOCATION: On-Site – Main Campus


EMPLOYMENT STATUS: Part-Time

EMPLOYMENT CLASSIFICATION: Non-Exempt



JOB SUMMARY:

The Grounds Assistant supports the Facilities Department by helping maintain the beauty and cleanliness of the campus grounds. This is an entry-level position designed for students interested in hands-on work outdoors. No prior experience is required-training will be provided.



ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Assist with lawn care, including mulching, weeding, raking, and basic cleanup.
  • Plant flowers, grass, shrubs, or trees under supervisor direction.
  • Help apply mulch or straw for protection of plants and seeded areas.
  • Pick up litter and keep walkways and outdoor areas neat.
  • Water plants and assist with seasonal planting projects.
  • Rake and compost leaves; clean flower beds.
  • Assist with simple landscaping tasks such as placing stones or small decorations.
  • Support set-up and clean-up for special events.
  • Assist with manual snow and ice removal during inclement weather

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:


  • Willingness to learn groundskeeping and landscaping skills.
  • Ability to follow instructions and work both independently and in a team.
  • Dependability and good time management.
  • Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions.
  • Basic use of gardening hand tools (training provided).

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY:

  • This position does not have supervisory responsibility.


OTHER DUTIES:

  • Other duties as assigned by supervisor


QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Willingness to learn groundskeeping and landscaping skills.
  • Ability to follow instructions and work both independently and in a team.
  • Dependability and good time management.
  • Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions.
  • Basic use of gardening hand tools (training provided).
  • Good customer service skills

Licensing and Certifications: NA


WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Work is outdoors, with exposure to varying weather conditions (heat, cold, rain, etc.).
  • Moderate physical activity, including walking, bending, and lifting up to 30 pounds.
  • Safety training and precautions will be provided.
