Under
moderate supervision, performs and is responsible for skilled gardening operations, including but not limited to identifying and initiating
corrective action to maintain a healthy landscape, including removal of weeds, corrective pruning and fertilization and assist with layout
of floral displays, landscape projects and all other elements of the landscape maintenance. b. Provide input to improve landscape design and
operations. c. Perform pruning and removal of tree’s including aerial work with the use of a bucket truck.

Duties and Responsibilities
a. Under moderate
supervision performs all phases of work pertaining to grounds/landscape construction and maintenance.
b. Under moderate supervision
operates all equipment assigned to Grounds Division.
c. Helps identifies and corrects problems of plants, grasses, trees, and
shrubs.
d. Notifies supervisor of all defects, problem areas, and safety hazards related to grounds/landscape.
e. Removes snow,
including the operation of snowplows and salt spreaders.
f. Carries out jobs as defined under other job classifications normally assigned
to Grounds Division, such as Trash Truck Helper, and Grounds Gardener 3rd Class.
g. Assists in furniture and event set ups and
breakdowns, decorations for special functions, meetings, etc.
h. Performs other duties described under Grounds Gardener 3rd Class as well
as all assigned within the normal scope of the department’s responsibilities and the individual’s capabilities.
Minimum
Qualifications
a. HS diploma or equivalent and at least two years of work experience in grounds/landscape maintenance
operations, to include soil preparations for landscaping, planting of grass seed, sod, shrubs, trees, and flowers, as well as care and
maintenance on turf, shrubs, trees, and hedges. Must be able to identify the area’s normal range of grasses, shrubs, and trees. Can
demonstrate knowledge and ability to operate all tools and power equipment utilized in landscape maintenance operations. Must be able to
exhibit acceptable life experiences in grounds gardening and horticultural work.
b. Is currently classified and working as g Grounds
Gardener 3rd Class and meets and maintains all qualifications for Grounds Gardener 3rd Class.
c. A minimum of two years of service in the
trade at Villanova University (upon the discretion of Facilities Management.)
d. Must have and maintain a valid State driver’s license
and also meet all requirements of the University Driving Policies. Failure to be able to qualify for operation of a motor vehicle in either
of these categories, will result in a demotion down to an appropriate qualifying level not requiring operation of a University
vehicle.
e. Must have the ability to follow both verbal and written directions in English; the ability to interact with students,
faculty, administration, and staff in a professional and positive manner, as well as the ability to read and understand OSHA guidelines such
as Material Safety Data Sheets, equipment safety data plates, fuel/chemical flash points, etc.
f. Must have the physical ability to climb
ladders, to bend, reach, crawl, and lift up to 60 lbs.; the ability to work in enclosed spaces.
g. Must possess current ANSI/OSHA
compliant training card to operate bucket truck, forklift, or both.
h. Must not have any disciplinary actions on file within the previous
twelve months of applying for this position.
