Departmental Objective
In support of Christopher Newport University’s mission, the mission of CNU Dining Services is to provide CNU students with the highest quality in food and dining experiences. Purpose of the Position
Under the direction of the Food Service Manager I, oversees and participates in the planning, production, storage, rotation, and preparation of food items, for the services of students and special event meals.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Related to Position
- Ability to read and write.
- Basic math skills.
- Knowledge of all types of cooking methods.
- Ability to read and comprehend recipes, lists, and production needs.
- Knowledge of commercial kitchen equipment.
- Ability to complete multiple tasks concurrently.
- Ability to communicate in writing or verbally to both supervisors and subordinates.
- Knowledge of safety and sanitation procedures.
- Ability to work in congested work areas.
- Ability to work in areas where wet processes are used.
- Ability to wear protective footwear.
Education, Experience, Licensure, Certification Required
Education:
- High school diploma or equivalent education/experience that equates to a high school diploma
Experience:
- Experience in a high volume kitchen
Additional Consideration(s)
Education:
- Some Culinary Art School courses
- ServSafe certified or equivalent food handler program
Experience:
- Supervisory experience
- Experience with implementing or adhering to safety procedures
- Knowledgeable in sanitation protocols and/or maintaining cleanliness standards
- Experience writing menus and/or developing recipes
- Experience reading and comprehending prep lists and large-scale production needs
- Experience in a high volume kitchen in an educational/institutional setting
Salary Information
Starting at $36,552, Commensurate with Education and Experience
