The Role and the Department
The Computing and Information Services (CIS) has an annual operational
budget in excess of £12m, multi-million pound programmes of change within year, and approximately 185 staff. The Senior Leadership Team
report directly to the Chief Information Officer (CIO) with the following portfolios: Strategy and Change; Operations; Information Systems,
and Cyber Security. CIS work with departments across the university to provide academic, teaching and administrative services that underpin

CIS is a
friendly, but demanding department, where much is expected and can be achieved by competent, self-motivated individuals who work well in
teams. The department works in a hybrid capacity depending on the job role and individual personal requirements.
The department is
looking to appoint an ITAM Manager to join the Asset Management team.
The ITAM Manager will provide
oversight and delivery of the full lifecycle management of the university’s IT assets, with a joint focus on software licensing and the
oversight of IT hardware assets. This role requires a blend of technical, administrative, and strategic skills, including legal and
financial acumen. The IT Asset Manager will be a key point of contact for matters related to IT asset inventory, compliance, and
procurement. They will work closely with various university departments, including finance, procurement, and legal, to ensure the
university’s software and IT assets are managed efficiently, cost-effectively, and in full compliance with all regulations and licensing
agreements.
The base location for this role is Boldon House, our exciting new professional services hub. Boldon House is situated on
the outskirts of Durham near the Arnison Centre in Pity Me. Boldon House brings a number of professional services teams together in a

Qualifications/Experience
1. Educated to degree level (or equivalent experience).
2.
IT asset management including – software asset management, hardware asset management, software procurement and software licencing aligned to
industry standards such as ISO/IEC 19770-1.
3. Experience of delivering, operating within guardrails and set processes, and
developing specialist software and hardware asset management services and maintaining accurate inventories.
4. Experience of
providing specialist advice and guidance to a range of customers and colleagues, including more senior colleagues based on an in-depth
understanding of software licensing and compliance.
Skills/Abilities/Knowledge
5. Excellent spoken
communication skills to drive value through negotiation with vendors and with various organisational stakeholders where assets are a
duplication within the overall estate.
6. Excellent written communication skills to be able to write reports such as cost, risk,
usage reports for vendor management conversations, and portfolio recommendations.
8. Strong financial acumen to support the setting of budgets and operating
within set financial limits.
9. Strong administrative skills with an ability to raise purchase orders for new assets and
renewals.
10. Strong digital competence across a range of digital devices and apps including IT Asset tracking Tools – e.g Snow,
Xensam, ServiceNow, or UniDesk.
11. An ability to develop effective working relationships, both internally and externally.
12. Committed to continuing professional development to maintain professional recognition.
