Job Description:
The IT Generalist I would assist the Microbiology and Cell Science department with the follow:
- Software & Web Development –
design, code, test, debug, and support MCS web applications and mobile friendly portals using PHP, JavaScript, ASP.NET, and MySQL. - Content Management – curate synchronized, accurate content across the department website and related landing pages.

Application Development – assist with the creation and maintenance of systems for leave/travel requests, ion torrent database management,
room scheduling, MCS calendars, surveys, faculty affiliation, and proctor selection. - Linux & Distance Ed Support – maintain Linux
servers, backup routines, and the department’s Moodle/Canvas integration. - Project Leadership – collaborate on multimedia
projects, recommend and deploy AV/AV X (AVer, AMX) hardware and network components for >20 labs, offices, and classroom spaces. - Procurement & Vendor Relations – help evaluate, purchase, and manage IT equipment, peripheral devices, and licensing agreements.

AV & Meeting Support – configure and troubleshoot AV gear (Zoom, Teams, AMX switching) for meetings and recorded seminars.
- Work
station & OS Support – assist faculty, staff, and students with Windows, macOS (Leopard-Mavericks), and other OS installations and updates. - Software Guidance – counsel on Microsoft Office, Adobe Creative Cloud, Dropbox, Google Drive, and UF wide services; handle
account provisioning, rights management, and data recovery. - Training & Resources – as needed, produce concise instructional
videos and guides; lead one on one user training. - Network Troubleshooting – diagnose and resolve connectivity issues; administer
Active Directory, shared folder architecture, and UF/IFAS software platforms. Evaluate user needs and makes recommendations on necessary
software and computer equipment. - IT Liaison – act as the departmental bridge between UF/IFAS IT and faculty; present departmental
needs in bi weekly UF/IFAS meetings.- Communication – disseminate IT updates, security alerts, and policy changes to all department
stakeholders.

Required Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in an appropriate area; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Preferred:
B.S.
or B.A. degree with a preference for a degree in computer science or related field. Experience in information technology. Knowledge of web
design.
Knowledge of MySQL database structure and function.
Knowledge of computer programming with modern program development
tools.
Ability to install configure and troubleshoot computer applications including, but not limited to: Microsoft Office, Acrobat
design software, Microsoft Exchange, Active Directory, Sharepoint.
Knowledge of website design, and web applications: PHP, JavaScript,
Java, HTML, CSS, ASP, MYSQL, WordPress, Joomla, Drupal usability issues and familiarity with UF web polices and guidelines.
Knowledge of
AV equipment and presentation methods, including Polycom Aver, Adobe Connect, Blue Jeans, Lync AMX, Creston.
Knowledge of network
architecture, hardware and operating systems.
Knowledge of network protocols including but not limited to: FTP, HTTP, SMTP, POP, IMAP,
MAPI, TCP/IP, IPX/SPX, DHCP and others.
Verbal and written communication skills. Understanding of the University Computer Acceptable Use
Policy (AUP). The ability to work with other network administrators to improve network efficiency. Also, should interface and communicate,
both verbally and in writing, with all department personnel on a daily basis.
Should work efficiently, and pay strong attention to
detail
Should be able to lift at least 50 Lbs. (Printers, monitors, computers and other equipment)
Should be able to climb ladders
(running network cable, accessing network, equipment chases)
Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlinesSpecial
