Student Counseling Center
Position Description
Plans and directs the
overall operation of a major department (with institutional oversight) and provides leadership for staff members. Meets ORP eligibility
requirements. Under executive direction, performs highly varied administrative duties involving the use of independent judgment and
professional skills. Responsible for all employees assigned to area.
Major/Essential Functions
- Supervision of
Administrative Professional Staff (Associate Directors/Assistant Directors) and their respective programmatic responsibilities. Meet with
Administrative Professional Staff on weekly basis for strategic planning focusing on Clinical Services, training,
outreach/group - Oversight and coordination of strategic communication and marketing projects associated with the Student Counseling
Center, including regular reporting and marketing material/websites. - Collaborate with colleagues and departments across the
institution and in the community to promote student learning and development, persistence and success. - Provide programs and services
to meet the mental health needs of Texas Tech students. Includes carrying an appropriate caseload of student clients, assisting with walk-in
services, and providing outreach programming. - Develop and maintain financial reports and plans related to the Student Counseling
Center, including long-term financial planning and development, regular budget reporting, and oversight of procurement
processes. - Engage in ongoing strategic planning initiatives for the Student Counseling Center, including management of resources,
current and future demand for services, and potential need for future changes in resources and student services. - Ensure appropriate
hiring, training, supervision, and evaluation of professional staff. Ability to allocate and plan the workload of employees providing
direction, support as necessary. - Provide ongoing consultation to professional staff related to their employment at the Student
Counseling Center. Includes regular individual meetings with staff to discuss employee needs. - Provide clinical supervision of
psychologist trainees and new staff psychologists. Includes monitoring of staff acquisition and continued renewal of appropriate mental
health licenses.
Required Qualifications
Doctoral degree in clinical or counseling psychology. Knowledge of college
counseling centers and staff. Knowledge of APA-accredited training requirements. Must be licensed or eligible for licensure in the State of
Texas.
Preferred Qualifications
7 years of full-time progressive experience in college counseling. Preferred candidates
will exhibit a collaborative leadership style, ability to conceptualize challenges and mobilize staff in bringing solutions to fruition;
effective fiscal and human resource experience; excellent problem-solving and communication skills; and a record of accomplishment as a
student advocate on a college campus.
