Scope of
Job:
To provide excellent customer service as a first point of contact in an inter-professional clinic for the care of triply
diagnosed (mental illness, chronic disease, and appetitive drive disorder) of an assigned population with excellent interpersonal, oral,
written, and listening skills in Spanish and English.
Description of Duties:
- To intake patients into clinic setting by
obtaining vital signs, surgical/medical history, chief complaint, medications, and allergies. Document appropriately in the Electronic
Health record. - Report all pertinent findings to inter-professional team. Prepare charts as necessary for next scheduled clinic,
provide physician with all necessary test results, lab results and medical records as requested. Answer all messages from patients by clinic
policy, triaging calls, handle all medication refills or request via clinic policy. Communicate all necessary patient information to the
inter-professional team in a timely manner. - Answer telephones assisting patients with appointments, doctor/staff messaging,
pharmacy refills, and laboratory questions. - Provide full registration of new patients in the system as well as verification and
updating existing patient information in practice management system. - Perform simple diagnostic tests, collecting specimens, drawing
blood, sterilizing and cleaning equipment, and maintaining examination rooms at an outpatient care site. - Provides routine but
complex instructions for patient procedures and treatments, according to unit guidelines and as delegated by providers and
inter-professional team. - Problem-solves issues related to the retrieval of medical information. Coordinates clinical services
provided to patients according to payer guidelines (e.g., routing of lab specimens, ordering durable medical equipment). - Help
maintain an acceptable abandonment (no show) rates. - Perform a variety of clinic specific telephone functions including scheduling
and message management. - May be required to provide coverage at other clinical sites as needed.
- Performs other related
duties as assigned within the course and scope of this job.

Required Education:
High school diploma or equivalent and
graduate of a Medical Assistant program.

Licenses/Certifications:
Current Medical
Assistant Certification or Registration.
Required Experience:
Related experience in an ambulatory/primary care
clinic.

Equipment:
Personal computer, usual office equipment, and usual medical
office equipment.
Working Conditions:
Needs to be able to successfully perform all required duties. Usual office or
clinical ambulatory patient care facility conditions. Some evening and /or weekend work may be required. Possible exposure to blood-borne
pathogens. Based on the area of assignment, extensive travel within the Rio Grande Valley may be required.
Other:
Must be
able to multi-task. Bilingual is preferred.
