Position Summary
The role of a Non-Clinical Case Manager in the Student Outreach and Support Office is pivotal in spearheading initiatives aimed at enhancing retention and completion rates for SUU students. Collaborating closely with the Director and Assistant Director of Student Outreach and Support, a NCCM will play a vital role in overseeing their assigned non-clinical cases dedicated to providing assistance to students seeking campus and community resources. A NCCM will be asked to lead out on different initiatives on campus such as EdSights, Programing, Graduate Assistants, etc. Moreover, a NCCM will actively participate in non-clinical case management, extending support to our entire student population. Their expertise will be instrumental in guiding withdrawing students through the process and facilitating a smooth return for those returning to campus.
Essential Functions
- Coordinate support and resources in non-clinical case management for academics, wellness, mental health, behavioral concerns, and crises for SUU students that are represented in the DOS office, assigned by the Dean of Students and/or the Director of Student Outreach and Support.
- Collaborate with Student Outreach & Support Team to assess needs and risks of students; considering campus and community resources, and developing intervention plans for students of concerns.
- Work with re-engagement of students who return to SUU from previously withdrawing/deferring, to develop a plan and provide resources to ensure a successful transition back to campus.
- Assist in fulfilling the Early Alerts process, organize and train a Task Force of professional staff to provide support and intervention to students who are struggling with their academic performance, course attendance, and/or health and wellness.
- Assist in overseeing specific team duties as assigned, aiming to holistically support students and enhance retention efforts while identifying avenues for improving services at SUU.
- Monitor and analyze semesterly data on student withdrawals, behavioral concerns, and case interventions; collaborate with leadership to interpret findings and strategize enhanced support for high-risk student populations; maintain precise records and generate reports to identify trends and address emerging student needs.
- Create, implement, oversee and/or assist with all outreach campaigns as assigned by the Director of Student Outreach and Support.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Inform the campus community of important Student Outreach & Support Information such as withdrawal deadlines, resources, and offer students necessary information according to their circumstances.
Education & Experience
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field.
- At least 2 years of experience working in a higher education or equivalent crisis management.
- Proven self-motivation and organizational acumen to independently plan and execute tasks and projects under deadlines; take ownership of issues-make decisions and see them through to resolution-and manage multiple priorities, follow-ups, and support requests effectively.
- Ability to represent the Dean of Students and the Student Outreach and Support offices to senior leaders of the university, current/prospective students, their parents, families, and the community.
- Outstanding written, verbal, and interpersonal skills – excellent interpersonal and oral communication skills, including proven effectiveness in speaking on a one-on-one basis and making oral presentations before groups.
- Maintain calm, composure, and resilience under pressure; diffusing frustrated students, navigating tense conversations with empathy and steadiness, and demonstrating perseverance when helping students in crisis.
- Experience leading and motivating others to create successful partnerships, programs, and initiatives.
- Understanding of national trends, current issues, and best practices in higher education, especially those involving students, parents, and families.
- Experience working and rapport building with diverse groups – students, parents, families, and communities.
- Continuously reflect and adjust processes, adjusting from setbacks and feedback to improve workflow effectiveness.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s Degree
- Experience in a student affairs environment.
- Knowledgeable in the areas of student development, mental health, and other important issues related to student success.
- Experience mentoring and supervising student groups, including designing and leading training initiatives.
- Can demonstrate ability to collect, analyze, and assess data to measure positive outcomes and inform program improvements.
- Experience in using Canvas, Banner, Degreeworks, Google Suite, Excel sheets, etc.
