We are seeking a Nurse Practitioner to work in the Brady Urological Institute and Department of Urology at our Sibley Memorial Hospital location in Washington, D.C. This position is intended to collaborate with the faculty physician to provide Hopkins-quality continuum of care to patients with Urologic diseases in addition to see patients independently. Patients in the practice are drawn from local, national and international locales and often require coordination of multidisciplinary care. The nurse practitioner (NP) is an independent health care provider working cooperatively within a multi-disciplinary health team and is responsible for providing comprehensive care to patients.
Specific Duties & Responsibilities
- Conduct comprehensive and episodic health assessments for patients with urologic conditions I the community. This includes, but is not limited to, interviewing patients, taking medical histories, performing physical examinations, ordering laboratory tests, making tentative diagnosis, and prescribing appropriate treatments. Educates patients and or their families in order to promote wellness, prevent health problems, maintain current health and intervene in acute or chronic illness. Prescribe and regulate medications per provider.
- Record and document health assessment data necessary to maintain, coordinate and/ or expedite required services. Perform history and physical exams, discriminating between normal and abnormal findings. Identify differential diagnosis.
- Ensure patient and physician calls are returned in a timely manner and all patient interactions (phone, conversations, visits, etc.) are documented appropriately in Epic. Function as liaison between the urology team and primary care providers, nurse case managers, inpatient personnel and health care professionals in other specialties. Triage phone calls, answer questions from patients including instructions, medications, rells, biopsies, test results and other aspects of clinical care. Arrange referrals to appropriate specialties when needed.
- Assume responsibility for own professional development and remains current in clinical practice by attending relevant continuing education, manage-operate independent clinic, provide intervention as needed and triage complex cases appropriately. Coordinate scheduling of complicated patient treatment.
- Assume responsibility and accountability for time management professional relationships and interpersonal interactions. Regularly attend all outpatient clinics. Assist physician with patient management in the clinic. Manage/operate independent clinics. Assess and/ or manages follow- up plans specic to the patients’ needs.
- Coordinate scheduling of complicated patient treatment. Track patient compliance with treatment plan.
- Order appropriate lab, radiology, and other studies. Appropriately interpret results of the lab, radiology, and other studies. Performs tests and procedures as indicated within scope of practice.
- Consistently requests consultations with appropriate departments when necessary. Works collaboratively and provides leadership to optimize team performance and patient outcomes.
- Establish a plan of care related to the patient’s identified problems, including medication and therapeutic procedures. Consult with other team members regarding proposed treatment guidelines as necessary.
- Adheres to Hospital policies and procedures.
- Adheres to Clinical Operations Group Service Standards.
Minimum Qualifications
- Master’s Degree in Nursing
- Registered Nurse license and certified as a Nurse Practitioner. Must be licensed as an NP in the State of Maryland and Washington, DC.
- Current American Heart Association or American Red Cross CPR certification required.
- Must maintain current licensure and certification during the duration of employment. Completion of the JHH SOM East Baltimore Campus credentialing process is required before the start date.
Preferred Qualifications
- Graduate of an accredited master’s program for school of nursing with a Nurse Practitioner curriculum of adult medicine.
- Demonstrate analytical ability necessary to diagnose patients and develop and implement plans of action for long-term and short-term management of acute and chronic urologic oncologic health problems.

Starting Salary Range: $100,000 – $152,900 Annually ($120,100 targeted; Commensurate w/ experience)
