Announcement
Florida A&M University Facilities, Planning, Construction and Safety/Plant Operations and
Maintenance Department (Grounds Shop) is pleased to announce the acceptance of qualified applications for the Operations Supervisor
vacancy.
Responsibilities
Supervises
the daily activities of the Grounds Crews in the Grounds Department; Coordinates the work priorities of the campus grounds; Evaluates
individual project needs; Coordinates work flow and scheduling; Coordinates event support needs from the Grounds Department; Informs
subordinates of all relevant University Regulations and Internal Operating Procedures and provides access to all related documents; Assesses
and documents subordinates’ ability to comply with all relevant University Regulations and Internal Operating
Procedures.
Employs measures of accountability for compliance with University Regulations and Internal Operating
Procedures; Conducts and documents performance evaluations in a timely manner for each subordinate, in accordance with University
Regulations and Internal Operating Procedures; Perform the following general landscaping maintenance tasks around buildings and campus
areas:
Watering of Plant Materials: trees, shrubs, ground covers, and annual flowers; Trimming, mowing, edging, weed eating, raking, and
removing debris; Installation of small landscape renovation projects.
Tracks all Grounds equipment inventory; Maintains
log of equipment and tools used by crews on a daily basis (i.e. large tractors, landscaping equipment, mowers, vehicles, trenching machines,
and other maintenance equipment); Ensures all exterior trash receptacles on campus are addressed on a routine basis; Coordinates the pick-up
schedule for all campus dumpsters; Ensures the campus is free of debris and other items which may create safety concerns; Ensures Grounds
equipment is appropriately maintained (i.e. light maintenance such as checking and adjusting brakes, minor repairs, adding fuel, water, oil;
Sharpening and balancing mower blades; Cleaning and washing vehicles, etc.; and ensures pot holes in streets and parking lots are addressed
in a timely fashion.
Minimum
Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalency and three years of related experience. Appropriate
vocational/technical training may substitute at an equivalent rate for the required
experience.
Recommended
Competencies
Knowledge of Grounds / Landscaping maintenance;
Knowledge of the procedures for operating
a variety of Grounds related equipment (motor vehicles, heavy and light equipment);
Knowledge of small equipment maintenance
requirement;
Ability to perform light maintenance and service work on equipment;
Ability to follow verbal and written
instructions;
Ability to be tactful and work independently;
Ability to communicate effectively;
Ability to bend, kneel and lift a
minimum of 25 pounds;
Ability to stand for a minimum of two (2) hours without a break;
Ability to work outside in North Florida
temperature extremes; and,
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with
others.
Anticipated Salary Range
The salary
range is between $40,000 to $43,500 commensurate with relevant
experience.
Licenses and Certifications
Must
maintain a valid Driver’s License.

Plan
This is an USPS (University Support Personnel System)
position.

Employment
Successful candidate is subject to a pre-employment screening which includes a review of

educational documents must be submitted, where applicable, at the time of employment.

Section 110.1128, Florida Statutes, prohibits employment by the State (including re-hire after a break in

Schedule
Scheduled work hours are
6:00am to 3:00pm, Monday through Friday.
