Responsibilities:
GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES: To install, inspect, and repair water, sewer, and other plumbing systems; to insulate
piping systems; and to do related work as required.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED: Receives general and specific work assignments from a
superior with considerable latitude for the use of independent judgment in the application of the practices and techniques of the trade;
work is reviewed usually upon completion for satisfactory performance.
SUPERVISION EXERCISED: As required, supervises the work of
helpers or others assigned to assist in performance of a work assignment.
ILLUSTRATIVE EXAMPLES OF WORK PERFORMED:
Under
general supervision, to install, inspect, and repair water and sewer systems, including lavatory facilities, faucets, drinking fountains,
sprinkler systems, and cafeteria equipment.
To inspect and maintain institutional equipment, such as continuous baths, shampoo tables,
arm and foot baths, thermostatic mixing valves, and various hydrotherapy equipment.
To install, inspect, and repair gas and air lines.
To cut, thread, and bend pipes according to requirements.
To keep all power equipment and hand tools of the trade in good working
condition. As required, to requisition supplies and tools.
As required, to keep materials and time records.
To do related work as
required.
Required Qualifications:
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS FOR APPOINTMENT:
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND
CAPACITIES:
A thorough knowledge of the practices, techniques, tools, equipment and materials used in the plumbing trade and skill in
the application of such practices and techniques; skill in the use of the tools and equipment used in the plumbing trade; a working
knowledge of safety measures and precautions; the ability to work from plans and specifications and to follow rough sketches and oral and
written instructions; and related capacities and abilities.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
EDUCATION: Such as may have been gained
through completion of eight school grades; and
EXPERIENCE: Such as may have been gained through employment as a journeyman
plumber.
Or, any combination of education and experience that shall be substantially equivalent to the above education and
experience.
**SPECIAL REQUIREMENT: Must possess a journeyman plumber’s license in the State of Rhode Island.
