Duties & Responsibilities:


The
Applications & Analytics Team (A&A), a division of School of Medicine Technology Services (SOMTech), supports all aspects of the mission of
the school, and certain overlapping functions of partner institutions the VCU Health System and MCV Physicians, by building and maintaining
web applications and data analytics services providing critical insights and support to education, research, and administration. As part of
this team, the Quality Assurance (QA) Analyst role will be a key contributor to the success of all technical solutions provided by the A&A
team. This role is responsible for ensuring the quality, usability, and performance of software applications, web application platforms, and
business intelligence dashboards.

This position will work closely with developers, business analysts, and product owners to identify
issues early in the development cycle, establish testing processes, and enhance the overall user experience. Supporting both manual and
automated testing efforts, the QA Analyst helps maintain high standards for all digital products delivered by A&A.



In collaboration
with the Business Analyst, the QA Analyst will ensure that developed features meet functional requirements and quality expectations. This
role will also lead efforts to coordinate and optimize user acceptance testing (UAT), ensuring that solutions are thoroughly vetted prior to
staging and production deployment. Additionally, the QA Analyst will contribute to special projects and continuous improvement initiatives,
helping to refine testing strategies and promote best practices across the A&A.

The QA Analyst reports to the Assistant Director for
Product Strategy and will work with various applications to support the education, research, and clinical missions of the School of
Medicine, MCV Physicians, and the VCU Health system.


  • Conduct thorough testing of digital assets including software
    integrations, web pages, web applications, and BI dashboards.
  • Perform regression testing to ensure new changes do not negatively
    impact existing functionality.
  • Evaluate digital products from an end-user perspective to ensure intuitive design, accessibility,
    and usability. Provide feedback to improve user workflows and interface consistency.
  • Design, document, and maintain detailed test
    cases and test plans. Develop and execute automated test scripts using tools such as Selenium, Playwright, or TestComplete.
  • Conduct
    performance and compatibility testing using industry recommended tools.
  • Support basic security testing and ensure compliance with
    organizational standards and accessibility guidelines.
  • Work closely with business analysts, developers, and leadership to align
    testing efforts with business requirements. Participate in sprint planning, reviews, and retrospectives. Support process improvement and QA
    best practice development.
  • Maintain clear documentation of test results, issues, and resolutions. Provide regular QA status
    updates and metrics to stakeholders using tools like Power BI or Azure DevOps.


Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications


  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Systems, Computer Science, or a related field.
  • 2 years of
    experience in software testing or quality assurance.
  • Experience with manual testing techniques and basic automation tools.
  • Experience with designing and executing test cases for functional and regression testing.
  • Experience with test case development
    and automated testing frameworks.
  • Familiarity with defect tracking tools (e.g., Jira, Azure DevOps).
  • Strong attention to
    detail and analytical thinking.
  • Effective communication and collaboration skills.
  • Ability to work independently and manage
    multiple priorities.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in and foster an environment of respect, professionalism and civility with a
    population of faculty, staff, and students from all backgrounds and experiences, or a commitment to do so as a staff member at VCU.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related discipline.
  • Certified Software Quality Analyst (CSQA), or equivalent.
  • Experience with AI-powered testing tools for tasks such as
    self-healing tests, automated test case generation, and defect analysis
  • At least 3 years of experience in QA roles, preferably in
    higher education.
  • Understanding of software development life cycle (SDLC) and Agile methodologies.
  • Exposure to security
    and compliance testing (e.g., FERPA, HIPPA).
  • Experience with CI/CD pipelines and version control systems (e.g., Git).
  • Knowledge of accessibility standards and UX testing best practices.
  • Experience creating training materials and conducting user
    training sessions.

Salary Range:$80,000 – $90,000
