Working at scale, you’ll combine technical expertise with a collaborative mindset to create reliable, high-performing data systems that support Purdue’s teaching, learning, and research missions. You’ll serve as a technical lead throughout the business intelligence (BI) development lifecycle, ensuring our data platforms and processes are robust, maintainable, and built for the future. You’ll join a strong, fully remote data engineering team that is deeply collaborative, highly supportive, and committed to helping each other grow. Our group is not only modernizing Purdue’s enterprise data architecture-we’re doing it together, with shared ownership, open communication, and a culture that values learning as much as delivery. As a Senior Data Engineer, you’ll help shape the future of our data ecosystem while working with teammates who are generous with their time, quick to help, and solve problems collectively.

What You’ll Do


  • Lead design, development, and implementation of data solutions, warehouses, and access mechanisms
  • Drive ETL process development and optimization, ensuring data quality and reliability
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to gather requirements and deliver actionable, scalable solutions
  • Maintain and support production data environments, resolving complex programming and interface issues
  • Focus on performance tuning, system interoperability, and continuous improvement
  • Prepare documentation and facilitate testing and validation across the software development lifecycle

This is a remote position.

What We’re Looking For


Education and Experience Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer technology, computer science, engineering, or related discipline
  • Four (4) years of experience in software systems development and programming
  • Two (2) years of experience in data warehousing or business intelligence
  • In lieu of degree, consideration will be given to an equivalent combination of related education and required work experience

Skills Required:


  • Experience in:
    • a variety of BI environments and experience with BI tools
    • cross functional team environments

  • Experience with:
    • structured design, development, and implementation of new computing architectures
    • a variety of data sources (SAP, exposure to dashboards, OLAP and data mining tools, SQL, Oracle, Flat Files, Excel, etc).

  • Metadata and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work effectively with a broad group of constituents (e.g. subject-matter experts, vendors, customers, etc.) on a wide variety of applications and infrastructure to identify and resolve issues
  • Demonstrated ability to administer enterprise level services including version control systems, relational databases, web servers, or other complex applications
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills, documentation and collaboration with those supporting and using complex applications and systems
  • Knowledge of:
    • databases, data mining, and data warehousing systems
    • application functionality, operating systems, & foundational infrastructure



Preferred:

  • Experience with Informatica IDMC
  • Experience with STAR Modeling

The anticipated annual salary for this position is between $80,880 to $85,935 commensurate with the candidate’s education and experience. The final salary offer will be determined based on a variety of factors, including equity, available budget, educational background, and relevant experience.
