Facilities Management is seeking to hire a Senior Operating
Engineer Mechanic Journeyman within the Utilities division. This position will be responsible for ensuring all operations and equipment are
in good, safe working order, by performing regular inspection, maintenance and repair of related equipment and systems


Duties:

  • Under general direction, maintains and repairs moderate to complex steam and chill water plant
    generating equipment and its related peripheral equipment, the tunnel distribution system, and all equipment assigned to the
    plant.
  • Monitors, adjusts, and operates boilers, chillers, and cooling towers.
  • Conducts various water tests to check chemical
    levels.
  • Determines when to adjust the chemical levels.
  • Discusses any problems with Lead or
    Supervisor.
  • Troubleshoots any problems with the equipment.
  • Performs periodic, preventive maintenance
    inspections.
  • Trains new employees, including but not limited to, steam and chill equipment operation and the importance of
    maintaining equipment records.
  • Performs more complex maintenance duties, to include but not limited to maintaining equipment and
    performing repairs within the individuals’ level of expertise.
  • Participates in training and educational activities.
  • Performs
    various duties as needed to successfully fulfill the functions of the position

Required Education and Experience: High School diploma or GED
AND:


  • 18 months of steam and chill water plant operation experience.


Skills:

  • Advanced knowledge of steam and chill equipment and operations.
  • Ability to operate highly specialized
    equipment.
  • Ability to exercise discretion and independent judgment to solve problems.
  • Ability to follow complex instructions
    and procedures.
  • Ability to read schematics, blueprints and drawings.
  • Ability to understand and apply safety rules and
    regulations.
  • Ability to work independently and as a team player.
  • Ability to multitask.


Certifications:

  • High Pressure Boiler License and State of Oklahoma High Pressure Boiler License.
  • Valid Oklahoma Driver’s License in order to drive University vehicles or ability to obtain within 30 days from hire date.

Physical Requirements:

  • Physical: Standing and walking for prolonged periods. Ability to grasp, reach, twist,
    bend and kneel. Ability to lift up to 75 lbs. unassisted.
  • Environmental: Works in a power plant environment and with large
    machinery. Exposure to hazardous conditions. Exposure to steam, electricity, high voltage, hazardous chemicals, extreme cold and heat, wet,
    humid and noisy environment. When required, must wear appropriate safety equipment. May be designated as an essential position during
    emergency closures. May be required to remain on campus overnight during weather or other emergencies. May be required to work outside of
    normal working hours.

Departmental Preferences:


  • 60 months of hands-on experience working with a
    diverse range of equipment, including but not limited to:
  • High Pressure and Medium pressure boiler tuning, troubleshooting, planned
    maintenance, and repairing.
  • Commercial Water-Cooled Centrifugal Chiller, to include tuning, troubleshooting, planned maintenance,
    and repairing.
  • Manual, motor, and air-operated gate, globe, ball, and control valves and actuators. Including
    disassembly/reassembly, replacement, adjusting, tuning, preventative maintenance, etc.
  • Centrifugal, diaphragm, and positive
    displacement pumps, to include disassembly/reassembly, replacement, tunning, balancing, preventative maintenance, etc.
  • In-depth
    troubleshooting of mechanical systems, through use of schematics, technical drawings, P&ID’s, and OEM specifications.
  • Pipe fitting
    and conduit installation, including expertise in the layout, installation, maintenance, and repair of high-pressure piping networks,
    including steam, water, fuel, and condensate systems.


Supervision:

  • May act as lead employee to
    others performing similar work.
