STARTING HOURLY RATE: Minimum of $18.80 hourly, depending upon education and experience, GF
POSITION PURPOSE:
South Dakota Mines has an opening for a Senior Secretary in the Mathematics department. This role provides essential administrative support for the department and serves as the first point of contact for visitors and callers. Key responsibilities include:
- performing receptionist duties, such as answering phones, greeting and directing visitors, and processing incoming and outgoing mail,
- assisting students by answering questions and handling routine office requests, including purchasing supplies and processing invoices,
- creating and maintaining budgets, monitoring expenses and preparing projections,
- monitoring and purchasing equipment and supplies, coordinating with Facilities to ensure building upkeep,
- assisting faculty with purchases, scheduling, and equipment,
- processing paperwork for student hires, and
- assisting the Department of Mathematics as assigned.
This position will work 29.5 hours per week from August 22 through May 21 and will be off from June 22 to July 21.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Knowledge of:
- work processes and practices pertaining to public administration, modern office equipment and procedures,
- basic bookkeeping and generally accepted accounting principles, and
- high level of proficiency with computer systems and common applications (Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.).
Ability to:
- communicate information clearly and concisely both in oral and written form, expressing ideas in a manner that the user can understand, exercising tact, patience and professional demeanor,
- establish and maintain effective and cooperative working relationships with faculty, staff, students and the public,
- operate a variety of office equipment (including printers, scanners, and laptops),
- gather, interpret, report and use information concerning assigned activities,
- plan and coordinate effectively, be detail oriented, handle multiple tasks, prioritize accordingly, and meet deadlines;
- use personal computer and software, and
- provide outstanding customer service.
