Virginia State University is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented individual to serve as the Small Ruminant
Mobile Processing Unit (MPU) Coordinator and Butcher.


This position is responsible for the operation and logistical coordination of
VSU’s Mobile Processing Unit, a key resource for supporting small ruminant producers in Virginia. The butcher is responsible for the skilled
preparation and processing of meat products including humane processing, cutting, trimming, and packaging of meat products in accordance
with food safety standards. This role ensures product quality, maintains sanitation protocols, and operates specialized equipment to support
efficient meat processing and customer service.

Minimum Qualifications


Considerable knowledge and skill in
livestock processing.

Effective in engaging under-served and diverse communities.


Skilled in communication and Microsoft
Office.

Experienced in mechanical systems, vehicle and generator maintenance, and operation of commercial and farm equipment.


Compliant with university/state travel policies, including overnight travel.

Valid driver’s license with a proven driving
record.


Experience/understanding of butchery in rural settings.

Experience working in a processing or butchering
facility


Additional Considerations

Bachelor’s degree in animal science, meat science, or an
agriculture-related field is preferred.


Ability to drive a 40 ft. trailer or CDL preferred.
