Position Information
Under the direction of the Facilities
Services Custodial Supervisor, the Sr. Custodian performs a variety of custodial/housekeeping tasks to care, maintain, disinfect, sanitize,
and preserve campus facilities. The Sr. Custodian is responsible for the upkeep of their assigned building(s) to ensure a safe and clean
environment for staff and students to enjoy. The Sr. Custodian may work independently or as a part of a team in assigned work areas in a
fast paced environment with project deadlines and close turnarounds while maintaining a positive attitude. The Sr. Custodian uses their own
initiative and proactively addresses daily tasks to maintain a clean environment. Sr. Custodians communicate effectively with colleagues,
supervisors, staff, faculty and students to ensure a good relationship with campus customers.
Please Note: This job posting is for
multiple openings on various shifts including day, swing, and graveyard shifts.
The full salary range for the Sr. Custodian position
is $21.05 – $28.89 per hour. We base salary offers on a variety of considerations, such as education, licensure and certifications,
experience, and other business and organizational needs.
Applicants must have current work authorization when accepting a UCR staff
position. Currently, we are unable to sponsor or take over sponsorship of an employment Visa for staff.
As a University employee, you

- Six months of experience in custodial/housekeeping operations or an equivalent
combination of training and experience. - Experience in safe use of a wide variety of equipment and machinery common to custodial
services including, but not limited to; stripping/buffing machines, vacuums, steam pressure washers, wet/dry shop vacuums, carpet extractors
(bonnet, dry, hydro extraction) cleaning machines, raiding flooring cleaning machines, squeegees, brushes, etc. - Experience in safe
use of cleaning chemicals, their interactions, danger signs and disposal methods. - Experience in proper procedures for cleaning and
maintaining a variety of floor surfaces including, but not limited to resilient tile floors, carpeted floors and terrazzo floors. - Prior experience and ability to prioritizing work orders, routine work, emergency requests, combined with the knowledge to choose
the proper materials and equipment to accomplish the work in the most expeditious and safe manner. - Experience working with a
diverse student, staff, faculty and visitor population and ability to provide exemplary customer service.

general public. Ability to follow oral and written instructions. Ability to work a flexible schedule (weekends and holidays; early mornings,
mornings, evening or graveyard shifts), as needed to accommodate campus event schedules. Ability to work indoors or outdoors with variable
temperatures and conditions including: dust, smog, rain or temperatures ranging from high heat with humidity to cold conditions. Ability to
work independently and as part of a team. Knowledge, skill, and ability to safely use of cleaning chemicals and understand their
interactions, danger signs and disposal methods. Ability to perform heavy/physically demanding tasks which require: pushing, pulling,
walking, standing, reaching, bending, twisting, stooping, kneeling, squatting, stretching, reaching above shoulder level and lifting up to
75 pounds. Ability to safely remove and replace heavy linen carts, refuse/recycling dumpsters from a loading dock routinely using a manual
or mechanical cart/equipment. Ability to work effectively; following through on assignments with minimal direction and fluctuating workload.
Knowledge, skill and ability to safely use of a wide variety of equipment and machinery common to custodial services including, but not
limited to; stripping/buffing machines, vacuums, steam pressure washers, wet/dry shop vacuums, carpet extractors (bonnet, dry, hydro

Key Responsibilities
- Custodial & Housekeeping
Maintenance: Performs semi-skilled and skilled routine and emergency cleaning, housekeeping and custodial duties using a wide range of
equipment from small hand tools to large riding equipment. Utilizes knowledge of cleaning chemicals and tools to safely perform cleaning
tasks including but not limited to extraction, wax, polish, strip, clean, buff, sanitize, disinfect, dust, wash, vacuum, etc. Scrubs,
cleans, disinfects and sanitizes walls, floors, ceilings, fixtures, equipment, toilets, showers, refrigerators, drinking fountains,
counters, handrails, furniture, glass, etc. Performs emergency clean up tasks including, but not limited to cleaning during flooding or
water damage, chemicals, sewage, bodily fluids or broken glass. Understands and utilizes safety procedures and protocols to clean
biohazardous materials and chemicals; reports biohazards or chemical spills immediately. Restocks and replenishes custodial closets and
restroom areas with soap, paper towels, toilet paper, and all other types of custodial supplies. Cleans and maintains tools, equipment and
custodial closets; notifies supervisor of malfunctioning equipment and tags equipment requiring repairs. Removes graffiti, unauthorized
posters, or tape from walls, windows or surfaces. Locks and unlocks building and rooms, as instructed; secures buildings and protects
against unauthorized access/entry into buildings. Assists with the integrated pest management program (IPM) and control and eradication of
insects and rodents; performs routine and emergency control of varmints and insects using various safety approved sprays and powders. Safely
cleans, disposes and sanitizes areas of animal droppings or deceased animals. Collaborates with other Facilities Services to accomplish
major refurbishment projects by cleaning construction debris, moving furniture or large carpet rolls and performing final
cleaning. - Floor Care: Responsible for overall floor maintenance of a wide variety of floor surfaces; maintains by stripping,
waxing, buffing, shampooing, mopping, extracting and bonneting interiors and exterior floors not limited to but including offices, lobbies,
meeting rooms, study rooms, stairwells, restaurants and courtyards. - Communication: Communicates progress of work verbally and/or
in writing. Responds to daily work orders and performs necessary emergency requests, as instructed. Maintains a positive attitude and
communicates effectively with colleagues, staff, faculty and students. Communicates and reports to a supervisor and/or staff regarding any
potential issues, not limited to potential safety hazards (e.g. broken glass, damaged porches or steps, excess water, fire, etc.)
liabilities or conditions/items requiring repair or replacement (e.g. burned out lights, broken restroom fixtures, maintenance issues,
unlocked/unsecured doors, broken locks, malfunctioning alarm pads, etc.). Reports suspicious activity to a supervisor or UC
Police. - Exterior Cleaning Maintenance: Maintains exterior of buildings by sweeping or blowing down sidewalks, stairs and
walkways; cleans using high-steam pressure washers and riding sidewalk scrubbers. Ensures building entrances are maintained from free
hazards and trash. Cleans map stands, outdoor equipment and furniture. - Moving: Moves furniture, equipment and materials as
required for general cleaning maintenance or set-ups. Receives, moves, stores or organizes, large quantities of housekeeping supplies and
paper goods. Moves supplies and equipment around the campus, as necessary. Utilizes safe moving and lifting procedures to move large
refuse/recycling containers, laundry carts and furniture. Moves or modifies set ups of a variety of sized and types of furniture including,
but not limited to; desks, tables, chairs, sofas, office furniture, fixtures, beds, etc. Moving may be accomplished by hand, moving carts or
dollies. - Refuse & Recycling Support: Empties, moves and hauls refuse, recycling and/or cigarette butt bins; removes refuse and
litter, cleans bins/lids and assists with recycling efforts, as required. Removes large amounts of trash and recycling before and after
events as necessary. Moves and returns refuse and recycling dumpsters by hand or with vehicle connecting type systems for refuse waste
management pick up. Assists with emergency trash clean-up, cardboard box breakdown and disposing of waste materials into the appropriate
integrated waste management bins. - Event Set Up & Support: Sets-up and resets special events, meetings, and conferences, as
instructed by supervisors or contracts. Set-ups and resets include moving furniture, podiums, and refuse/recycling containers; cleans and
sanitizes meeting rooms, conferences or event spaces. Assists with summer conference events and groups as necessary; moving and storing
laundry carts, furniture, cleaning rooms, changing bed linens, exchanging towels and other amenities. Completes work to accommodate the
needs of conference groups, guests, and campus customers.
