Job Summary
Senior Programmer Analyst will lead the development, analysis, and maintenance of assigned projects in the Student Information System. Responsible for the analysis of user business requirements, designing project technical solutions, and the testing and deployment of developed projects. Assist in the training and development of new staff. Independently develop solutions with minimal supervision.



Major Responsibilities/Duties/Critical Tasks

  • Design, code, and test reports, queries, processes, and programs based on technical specifications.
  • Interact independently with the user community to gather and document business requirements, conduct process analysis, and help streamline business processes.
  • Work with users and other IT staff to perform troubleshooting as needed.
  • Update and maintain technical documentation of processes and procedures.
  • Assist with training and development of other programming staff.
  • Develop training projects as needed.
  • Serve as lead on projects and assignments with functional staff and other programmers, analysts, and developers.
  • Annual professional development in Peoplesoft and/or other training.
  • Identify and research new features that can be used in development or for functional staff.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Education/Experience


  • Bachelor’s degree or technical degree with an emphasis in Technology or Computer Science.
  • Three (3) years of experience programming in Peoplesoft.
  • One (1) year of experience working in Higher Education.
  • May accept a combination of education and experience.

Preferred Education / Experience

  • Master’s degree with an emphasis in Technology or Computer Science.
  • Two (2) years of experience in Higher Education, focused on technical development.
  • Experience leading project development, web development and/or scripting languages.
  • Web service development experience (i.e. APIs, REST).
  • Relevant technical certifications.

  • Proficient understanding of relational databases.
  • Proficiency working with SQL and Queries.
  • Student information systems interface/web service development.
  • Ability to learn and work with multiple programming languages.
  • Ability to research technical solutions and solve coding challenges.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with end-users.
  • Ethical.
  • Ability to maintain confidential information.
  • Ability to maintain the security or integrity of critical infrastructure, which may include communications systems, computer networks and systems, cybersecurity systems, electrical grid, hazardous waste treatment or water treatment system.

The retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS), subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least 135 days in length.
