System Administrator (Santa Barbara, CA)

The Systems Administrator (Sys Admin) will configure, manage, upgrade, and troubleshoot mission-critical Windows and Red Hat servers, Azure,
and AWS. The incumbent will participate in team management of the availability, stability, reliability and performance of the campus-wide
server and network infrastructure. This Sys Admin is expected to participate in IT planning, systems, and end-user support, and other campus
technology mechanisms as assigned. A strong collaborator as well as an independent contributor, the Sys Admin will communicate effectively
with teammates and demonstrate the capability to do independent research and problem-solving.

Function # 1

Systems
Administration

Frequency: D 40% of Total Time



Duties:

  1. Manage and maintain all servers
    associated with the enterprise Active Directory environment as well as other Windows Servers within a virtual server
    environment
  2. Manage a diverse array of Windows, Red Hat, and application servers in cloud environments
  3. Perform server
    administration tasks, e.g., manage the permissions and structure of our user/group file permissions and group policies
  4. Manage all
    server certificates and the permissions and structure of Fielding network shares solutions
  5. Assist in the management of applications
    as necessary to support authentication and authorization
  6. Assist in the management of student and employee 365
    accounts
  7. Perform audits on access to ensure security levels are met
  8. May be required to go on-site as
    needed


Function #2

Active Directory Management

Frequency: D 30% of total
time



Duties:

  1. Manage Fielding AD and Azure AD environment, including policies, schema management, groups and
    permissions
  2. Propose, implement, and maintain a robust set of security practices across all services and systems
  3. Contribute
    toward the formation of AD hardening; monitor systems for risks or security breaches and continuously improve our security
    posture
  4. Document and follow Change Management best practices


Function #3

Customer service,
process improvement, and automation

Frequency: D 30% of Total Time



Duties:

  1. Collaborate with
    colleagues across departments to deliver excellent customer service by building relationships, answering questions, and troubleshooting and
    resolving issues
  2. Resolve Help Desk Tickets in a timely manner.
  3. Partner with cross-functional teams on a regular basis to
    solve problems, identify areas for improvement, and implement changes effectively
  4. Maintain employee confidence by keeping
    information confidential
  5. Stay up to date with current best practices by reading relevant literature and attending
    conferences/workshops
  6. Work with the supervisor and assigned personnel across other University departments on special projects as
    needed


QUALIFICATIONS

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able and willing to perform

  • Bachelor’s degree
    in an IT-related field
  • At minimum 3 years’ experience in systems administration of Active Directory, Red Hat, Azure Global
    Administrator, AWS, and Windows servers on a large network; or an equivalent combination of education/experience.
  • Extensive
    knowledge of Active Directory (AD):
    • Permissions, group policies and LDAP schema
    • AD Azure management


  • Single Sign-On (ADFS, SAML20)
  • PowerShell (to manipulate AD attributes, etc.)
  • Windows systems administration
    knowledge:

    • Installations, Upgrades, Patching, Configurations, and Troubleshooting as it pertains to both
      workstations and servers
    • Monitoring performance
    • Migration of servers to the cloud (Azure and
      AWS)


  • Knowledge of AWS:

      • Create new EC2s
      • Cloning, monitoring, and
        troubleshooting



  • Backups and recovery in accordance with Disaster Recovery
  • Knowledge of M365 and
    Exchange administration

    • Email setup and configuration
    • Spam and phishing configuration and
      monitoring


  • Troubleshoot and trace emails
  • Monitor alerts

    • MS
      Admin
    • 365
    • Exchange Online (groups, dynamic distribution lists, etc.)

  • Intune and Cloud PC provisioning
    • Teams, Teams Phone, and Teams Policies
    • Licensing and assigning licenses.
    • Effective verbal and written communication
      skills
    • Proficient in learning and application of new technology and protocols
    • Ability to work effectively under pressure and
      meet deadlines
    • Ability to analyse problems, identify solutions, and take appropriate actions to resolve problems
    • Discretion
      in handling sensitive information and ability to maintain confidential information
    • Ability to handle stressful situations in a
      courteous and professional manner
    • Ability to work independently, prioritize, follow multiple projects and tasks through to
      completion, with close attention to detail while contributing to a positive team environment

  • Ability to work effectively
    both as a team player and leader with individuals at all levels of the organization
  • Skilled in learning and understanding university
    operations and university computer systems
  • Available to work flexible daily work hours and occasional evenings and weekends when
    needed

The hiring salary range for this position is $80,000.00 – $90,000.00. The hiring salary range above represents the
University’s good faith estimate at the time of posting
