Description
The Technology and Media Support Specialist provide front-line and advanced support for instructional technology, audiovisual systems, and end-user computing in a higher education environment. This role works closely with faculty, staff, and students to ensure effective use of classroom technology, academic media tools, and collaboration platforms that support teaching, learning, and campus operations.
The position requires a strong customer-service mindset, the ability to respond quickly in instructional settings, and a working knowledge of academic technologies used in classrooms, labs, and event spaces.
- Duties and Responsibilities
- Provide technical support for instructional technologies used by faculty and staff in classrooms, labs, and offices, including live troubleshooting during class sessions.
- Support learning technologies such as learning management systems (LMS), lecture capture, classroom response systems, and academic software.
- Assist faculty with the setup and use of instructional tools for in-person, hybrid, and online courses.
- Support, operate, and maintain audiovisual systems in classrooms and event spaces, including displays, microphones, cameras, speakers, and control systems.
- Set up and provide support for lectures, meetings, conferences, and campus events, including video conferencing and collaboration platforms such as Zoom and Microsoft Teams.
- Assist with basic media production tasks, including recording, editing, and streaming academic content.
- Coordinate equipment maintenance, repairs, upgrades, and preventative servicing.
- Provide desktop and mobile device support for Windows and macOS systems, printers, and peripherals.
- Install, configure, and maintain software applications used in academic and administrative environments.
- Manage support requests through a ticketing system, documenting solutions, procedures, and resolutions.
- Assist with technology deployments, classroom refresh projects, and inventory tracking.
- Deliver individual and group training for faculty and staff on instructional, media, and collaboration technologies.
- Create and maintain documentation, quick-start guides, and knowledge base materials.
- Collaborate with Academic Affairs, Media Services, and IT colleagues to support institutional technology initiatives and recommend classroom technology improvements.
- Research and evaluate emerging technologies to support academic innovation and institutional goals.
- Participate in or lead special projects and strategic initiatives as assigned.
- Perform other related duties as required.
Qualifications
Qualifications
- Associate’s degree in information technology, Educational Technology, Media Technology, or related field, or equivalent experience.
- One to three years of experience providing technical or audiovisual support, preferably in a higher education environment.
- Experience supporting classroom technology and live instructional settings.
- Strong troubleshooting skills with the ability to remain calm in time-sensitive situations.
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, and customer service skills.
- Preferred qualifications include a bachelor’s degree in a related field; experience working directly with faculty in a college or university environment; familiarity with LMS platforms such as Canvas, Blackboard, or Moodle; experience with lecture capture systems, classroom control systems, and hybrid teaching technologies; knowledge of accessibility standards and inclusive instructional technology practices; and relevant certifications such as CompTIA A+, Network+, or AVIXA CTS.
Physical Requirements
Ability to lift and transport equipment weighing up to 50 pounds
Ability to work on ladders and in classroom, lab, and event-space environments.
Willingness to work on occasional evenings or weekends to support academic and campus events.
