Trades Supervisor (Electrician)
Required Qualifications: Per Civil Service Standards and Specifications. One year of experience as a skilled journey level electrician subsequent to the completion of an apprenticeship program or equivalent training and experience. Must have, keep and maintain the appropriate valid NYS Driver’s License; have a motor vehicle record which is free from major violations or a pattern of repeat violations. (***Out-of-State Applicants, see “Special Notes”). Candidate must be able to perform the physical tasks of the position such as bending, lifting, stretching and climbing. Must have the ability to work in confined spaces and from a ladder, scaffolding or man lift over ten feet in height. Must be available and respond promptly in the event of emergencies or when needed.
Preferred Qualifications: Associates Degree in related fields. In lieu of degree, 5 years of trade’s experience in High Voltage field. Experience supervising staff. Strong computer skills including MS word, Excel, experience with CMMS (Infor – work order system). Experience with email communications.
Brief Description of Duties: Trades Supervisor (Electrician) is responsible for supervising and coordinating the activities for the High Voltage shop. This position is a working supervisor position, where you plan and lay out work, assign staff, provide instruction and assistance and inspect work. The Trades Supervisor will need to have knowledge of OSHA, PESH and safety Regulations. The selected candidate will be responsible for the following.
- Supervise various types of skilled/semi-skilled employees. Observe, assist, and inspect work while in progress and when completed to ensure that specific codes and regulations are followed, materials and equipment are used properly, schedules are met, and work is performed according to plan and schedule. Ensure preventive maintenance is being kept up on equipment and buildings.
- The Supervisor will implement current edition of NEC; OSHA (P.E.S.H) and N.F.P.A 70-E and enforce these as well as U.S.B’s policies and procedures for all work on or around 13kV or 69 kV equipment owned and operated by the University. The H.V Supervisor will follow P.P.E requirements and reinforce these safety practices with all personnel. H.V Supervisor will alternate leading monthly safety meetings with management.
- Prepare and maintain written and electronic (INFOR) records of work performed, completed and accounts for labor and material used. Prepare reports of job progress including employee time, material, supplies, equipment and work completed. Responsible to order equipment and supplies for the department.
- Reviews all work orders, blueprints and specifications and, as required, visits the project site to determine dimensions, materials and labor required to complete the project.
- Prepares rough sketches or plans to scale from oral or written instructions.
- Plan, organize and assign daily and emergency work. Assigns staff to the project and provides oral instructions and blueprints, specifications and plans. Prepare schedules and work orders using electronic INFOR CMMS system.
- Meets with supervisors representing other trades involved in the projects to coordinate activities and schedule work to be performed to insure the effective utilization of staff, materials and equipment and completion of the project on schedule.
- As assigned, inspect work performed by outside contractors to ensure conformance with project specifications.
- Supervise, train and evaluate subordinate personnel. Prepare, review and sign employee’s timesheets. Prepare performance evaluations, counseling’s, and overtime requests. Keep records regarding area equipment, tools, materials and supplies.
- Other duties as assigned.
Special Notes: This is a full-time position, 40 hours per week, Monday through Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. FLSA Nonexempt position, eligible for the overtime provisions of the FLSA. Internal and external search to occur simultaneously. Mandatory rehire roster candidates have preference. SG 14 Hiring Rate $56,506. This position includes location pay of $4,000 per year.
