The School of Humanities is a community of researchers, teachers, students, and support staff working together on some of the most interesting and exciting issues in historical and contemporary culture. Spanish is an integral part of the School and wider University with popular degree programmes available at undergraduate level and MPhil, MRes and PhD level as well as opportunities for multi-disciplinary research in modern languages (French, Spanish, Italian and Mandarin).

We seek to appoint a Lecturer to join our Spanish subject team, on a full-time open-ended contract. Candidates will have a good honours degree and PhD (or equivalent) in appropriate discipline and will have a native or near native level of fluency in both spoken and written English and Spanish. You will demonstrate a body of published research in high quality publications demonstrating standards of excellence in one or more of the following research areas: gender studies, memory studies, cultural studies or film studies. We are open to candidates working on any geographical area of Hispanic Studies, though preference may be given to those with an expertise in Contemporary Peninsular Spanish Culture. We particularly welcome candidates whose research sits within the School’s broad research themes: Heritage, Culture and Place; Communication, Language and Translation; or Gender.

Candidates will demonstrate an ability to secure research/KE funding, including some experience of contributing to grant applications and a track record in securing funding would be advantageous. You will also have relevant teaching experience at undergraduate and postgraduate level, have the ability to teach cultural classes at Honours level and Spanish language at all levels. You will also have experience of teaching Spanish as a foreign language and providing timely feedback to students.

A late August or early September 2022 start date is desirable.
