Lecturer in Illustration and Visual Media

The Lecturer for Illustration and Visual Media will lead and support the development of curricula and teaching across the course and with a particular focus on year 3 that expands illustration and image making across disciplines, focuses on student experience and challenges the community of practice in questioning assumptions in visual culture.

The role has a particular focus on evaluating and analysing data sets for key performance indicators and working with the course team and the course leader on proposing and implementing focused actions and interventions that support the needs and interests across a very diverse student group and maximises opportunities for all to achieve their full potential.

You will be responsible for teaching, administration, assessment, curriculum development, and on-going scholarship within the discipline. You will work collaboratively within a course team, deploying specialist expertise to develop pedagogy and the curriculum in innovative and critical directions. 

You will develop partnerships and collaborations with industry and academic partners, as well as bring your own research and/or practice to bear on the development of the subject and the course.

Your profile

You will have previous experience of teaching in Higher Education or comparable context, and in delivering a high-quality student experience, linking data evaluation to innovative teaching and learning approaches, as well as some knowledge of curriculum development and assessment. You will have or should be willing to attain, with UAL’s support, a relevant teaching qualification or recognition.

You will have a strong commitment to the advancement of your field, critical discourse in contemporary image production and theoretical and technical exploration of it. You will be proactive and actively contribute to the course and programme’s aims and vision, especially with a focus on student experience and student voice. 

You should be a specialist practitioner and/or researcher who is keen to use your academic and/or industry-based experience to support the development of student work on the BA Illustration & Visual Media. You should have a strong understanding of the contemporary context of illustration and visual media in an academic and/or professional setting and be engaged in relevant networks and communities of practice within this and/or related fields.
