This is an exciting opportunity to join the Department of Mathematical Sciences (DMS). The Department is a growing and vibrant department in the Faculty of Science and Health. DMS is internationally known for its research in a range of areas and offers an excellent education to its students.
The Department is looking to appoint two Lecturers in Statistics and Data Science to be a part of the department expansion strategy to improve its research profile in statistics and data science and the provision of statistics and data science teaching and learning. The post may include teaching on our actuarial science, data science and statistics courses at undergraduate and/or postgraduate level. This may include delivering statistics, data science, or actuarial science modules with existing lecture materials and developing new master level modules. It will also include supervising Statistics, Data Science and Actuarial Science master students.
The research of the department is structured in several research themes in different areas of Data Science and Mathematics. The new Lecturers are expected to contribute to one of the Research Themes, Statistical Methodology and Data Science of the department. We wish to add capability to the Department’s existing research in these areas as well as open up and develop new research activities that will become recognized as outstanding and internationally leading. Of special interests are the data science methodologies such as machine learning and artificial intelligence and computational statistics aspects.
Applicants should have evidence of a clear publication plan for submission to future Research Excellence Framework (REF) programmes and evidence of a research agenda, engagement in high-quality research activity and a developing research profile, along with a relevant doctoral level research degree in Mathematics or Statistics or related discipline or equivalent professional experience or practice or be close to completion of PhD. You will also have experience of designing and planning learning activities, developing effective learning environments and approaches to student support and guidance and Research interests in some field of data science and statistical methodology, such as computational statistics, machine learning and artificial intelligence.
